a scenic course, with beautiful villas overlooking small lakes, and also quite colorful with plenty of flowers and reeds, where you will need to think first before hitting some of your approaches if you want to finish with a nice scorecard. the par-5 opening hole sets the tone for what you will face, with a small lake to watch for (midway, on the right), and is followed by the two dogleg par-4 holes, with the 2nd, nicer than the 3rd, with its downhill tee shot and uphill approach toward its elevated green. then, after the pretty par-3 4th hole, with big bunkers in front of the green, set next to a small lake (on the right), three par-4 holes await you before moving on to the beautiful dogleg left par-4 8th, with a tee shot landing near a lake, midway (on the left), over which you will need to hit your approach to reach the green, with more water behind. water is again present on the picturesque par-3 9th hole, with a tee shot over a lake, just like on the dogleg right par-4 10th, with its narrow fairway, set between another lake, midway (on the left) and sand traps (on the right), and its elevated green, whose flag is partially hidden by trees. if the par-4 11th hole looks easier, with big bunkers, two-thirds of the way (on both sides of the fairway), you will have to make sure to avoid a small pond near the green (to the left), before walking over to the nice dogleg left par-5 12th, with a second shot over part of a lake. on the short par-4 13th hole, pretty and wide open, with villas on a small hilltop (on the left) and a lake, midway (on the right), you might be tempted to try to reach its green, with your tee shot, before moving later on to the par-4 15th, downhill and with a green, next to a lake (on the left). finally, after the dogleg right par-4 16th hole, with its uphill tee shot landing near a huge bunker in the middle of the fairway (in the inner corner), and the straight and slightly-downhill par-4 17th, with a tee shot over a wide sandy area and a wide green (halfway surrounded by a lake and plenty of reeds), you will complete your round with the dogleg right par-5 18th, with a big elongated bunker ending in front of the green (on the right), before concentrating on your last putt, a little bit hard to read with its little slope near the cup. as always, micko came up with another pretty and challenging course, and you should hurry to pack your bags (and your camera) and head for the caribbean in order to fully enjoy this par 72 ! |

a pretty desert course, with plenty of deep rough and shrubs, and tricky, sometimes, with quite a few slanted fairways, blind shots and some elevated greens. after the wide open par-4 1st hole, and its elevated green, you will face one of my favorite holes, the beautiful par-3 2nd, with a blind tee shot over a small hill (on the left) needed to reach the green (set on a plateau overlooking a nice panoramic view), before moving on to the par-4 3rd, straight but where you will have to hit another blind tee shot to land short of a deep rough area, splitting the fairway, midway. after a blind tee shot over more bushes and deep rough on the long par-3 4th hole, you will head to the dogleg left par-5 5th hole, uphill all the way and quite difficult, with its slanted fairway (again split midway, by deep rough), and its long and blind approach toward the green. then, after two straight holes, the par-4 6th and the par-5 7th, with more shrubs and deep rough to watch for, you will need to hit another blind tee shot over them, but, this time, downward to the green on the par-3 8th, before finishing with the straight par-5 9th hole, and its uphill approach to the green. the back 9 starts with the dogleg left par-4 10th hole, with a blind and downhill approach to get to the green, and is followed by the dogleg right par-5 11th, uphill all the way and with a slanted fairway and another blind second shot toward a sloped green. water awaits you on the par-3 12th hole, with a... tiny boomerang-shaped creek in front of the sloped green, just like on the par-4 13th, with its small lake (not far from the tee box, on the left), slanted fairway and elevated green. you will then face the dogleg left par-4 14th hole, downhill all the way and with a blind tee shot over deep rough and shrubs, before walking over to the par-3 15th, slightly uphill and with only dirt, rough and bushes between the tee box and the green. the last three holes are quite short : the par-5 16th is uphill all the way and with a slanted fairway, the par-4 17th has a few deep sand traps in front (and to the left) of the green, and the dogleg left par-4 18th, another one of my favorite holes, is quite scenic, with a tee shot landing short of an elongated lake, midway (next to a parking lot, on the right). needless to say, with plenty of dirt, bushes, deep rough, a few cacti, dead trees and a couple of big rocks, this real coral canyon golf course will definitely offer you a nice... desert, thanks to this challenging course from msr golf ! |

thanks, msr, for sharing the course, it is a beauty. foremost, it plays fair, rough is rough, sand traps are the kind i have to cut the ball to get out nicely, greens have contours but i didn't find any playing dry that were unfair. certainly lives up to your reputation, msr - another course to keep and play again and again. golfingod |

a very enjoyable course, pretty to look at with those blue ridge mountains far away, and challenging, especially around the middle holes and down the finishing stretch. this par 72 starts with a nice panoramic view as you tee off from the dogleg right par-4 1st hole, with a downhill shot and a slightly-uphill approach to the green, and is followed by two dogleg right holes (par-4 2nd and 3rd, with a small slope near the cup, on the latter). then, after two more doglegs (par-4 5th, to the right, with a tree-lined fairway, midway, and the short par-5 6th, around a small wooded hill, to the left), you will face some pretty and tricky holes, with the dogleg right par-4 7th, along a sandy area (midway, on the right), and a blind approach over a wide area filled with deep rough to get to the green (guarded by a wide daisy-shaped bunker), the dogleg left par-4 8th, with a blind tee shot landing down in front of a wide lake, over which you will have to hit your approach, and the dogleg par-4 9th, along trees (on the left), with an undulated fairway and elevated green. on your way back, you will have an eagle opportunity on the dogleg right par-5 10th hole, with a downhill tee shot and a green, reachable on your second shot, before heading for the picturesque par-3 11th, with a big rock to the right of an elevated green, and the very short risk/reward par-4 12th, with a green reachable with your driver if you can avoid a small elongated bunker across in front of it. then, after the straight, but not as "easy-as-it-looks" par-3 13th hole, with a lake (to the right) and an undulated green, quite tricky with slopes on the sides, you will get another eagle chance on the short dogleg left par-5 14th, downhill all the way, with a tree-lined and slanted fairway, midway, and a long second shot toward the green. if the dogleg right par-4 15th hole is nice, with trees on the edge of a wide lake (on the right) and a steeply-elevated green, the very short (less than 110 yards) par-3 16th is very scenic and quite tricky, with its downhill green, next to the lake (right behind), just like the beautiful dogleg par-5 17th, quite short but, with a wide lake on the left, you will have to hit your tee shot straight before aiming your second shot over it to reach its tiny green. overall, with its nice trees and wide open look, this rather short joshua lakes golf club ii looks more real than some... real courses, as bruce ryder did a very good job with this updated version, well worth keeping !

i had forgotten about this course and did not know i had it cloaked. after bruce released version ii, i uncloaked this and played it again. wow! for one of his early courses, this is very well done. i wish in fact he had used the plot from this one to make version ii. i give this course a big thumbs up! |

unfortunately, as in all relationships, chip and i can not see eye to eye with out course architect philosophy. i am endeavoring to create fantasy or fictional courses as i prefer to call them as realistic as possible. chip on the other hand may use the name of a real course as his, but it is not a real course, but definitely a fantasy one with almost the same hole routing for each one and rather easy putting greens. with these differences, chip and i cannot work together any more. this is the first and last project we will make together and release. thank-you for all the comments, suggestions and support. |

well, i'll start by saying don't get on the wrong side of the 18th green! but really enjoyed the course, played fair, and had some elevation that complicated the shot distances. as holein1 said, lovely course, wish the ones i play had greens like these with colors and textures. thanks for the course, and the opportunity to comment. |

an interesting course, pleasant to look at with its small mountains as a panorama, and challenging, at times, with a big lake to watch for and some small greens to deal with on quite a few holes. the par-5 1st, with its wide fairway hugging a lake (on the left) and along trees (on the right), should offer you an eagle opportunity if you can avoid a big sand trap, right in front of the green (slightly to the right) on your second shot. but the next three holes are more challenging, starting with the dogleg par-4 2nd, and its narrow and undulated fairway, with trees (on the right) and the lake (on the left), and continuing with the short and straight par-4 3rd, quite risky with its small green, reachable from the tee box (but with a small elongated bunker, right in front of it), and the dogleg par-4 4th, along the lake (on the left) and bending sharply to the right, with a blind tee shot along (or over) trees (on the right), and another big bunker in front. then, after the par-5 5th hole (with another eagle possibility), and the par-3 6th, with its slightly-elevated green, surrounded by sand, you will move on to the tougher dogleg right par-5 7th, with an elongated mound in the middle of the narrow fairway (hugging the lake on the left) and another green, reachable on your second shot. last, but not least, the par-3 8th hole will offer a pretty view as your tee shot flies over the tip of the lake and past a small bridge (on the right). the back 9 starts with three straight holes (par-3 10th, par-4 11th, and par-3 12th), with the latter being tricky with its tiny green, surrounded by trees, and is followed by the dogleg par-5 13th, along the lake (on the left) and bending slightly to the right, with its green, again reachable for an eagle opportunity. however, after the straight par-3 14th hole, with sand, halfway around in front of the green, the course get much tougher, with the nice dogleg right par-4 15th, with a heavily-undulated and narrow tree-lined fairway (and a big bunker in front of the elevated green), the dogleg right par-4 16th, with another tree-lined fairway, quite tricky with an elongated bunker, midway on the left (and with two small bunkers framing the slightly-elevated green), and the dogleg right par-4 17th, with a narrow fairway and an elongated bunker (in the outer corner) and another big bunker in front of the green. thankfully, the par-4 18th hole is wide open and you should have one last birdie shot after reaching its slightly-elevated green. with this par 72, chipgill continues to improve in his design and, if the sight of the small flowers, all located in the same spot behind the greens, lacks a little variety, this lake st-louis gc is fun to play, as you will have to think first before hitting some of your shots ! |

chipgill, i really enjoyed lake st louis, had some tough drives, but played absolutely fair, good bounces and bad. and in addition, i appreciate your willingness to accept comments regarding the course, something that doesn't happen much anymore. i'll keep lake st louis because it's a "real" course, which is what i enjoy.
thanks again, chipgill.

despite writing my usual novel below (ha, ha !), i forgot to mention that the texture used for the rocks is great, and that the view of the mountain as you reach the 18th green is simply superb ! and, believe it or not, quietly used only... 3 libraries to create this spectacular course... |

another beautiful course from quietly, with breathtaking (and scary !) mountains views, uphill all the way, and with steeply-elevated greens, making your approaches quite tricky, club-wise. right off the bat, you will see what’s in store for you with the pretty dogleg left par-4 1st hole, before continuing, after two straight ones (par-5 2nd and its little bridge, midway, and the par-4 3rd, with its heavily-slanted fairway and undulated green), with the dogleg right par-4 4th, with a tee shot over deep rough and bushes and a blind approach toward a steeply-elevated green. but the best has yet to come, with the gorgeous par-4 5th hole (my favorite), with a very tricky tee shot over a serpentine area filled with bunkers and bushes right in front of a narrow green, set right in front of a beautiful waterfall running down from a high cliff, and the scenic dogleg left par-5 6th, with that cascade again (next to the tee box, on the left) and a tee shot around trees on top of that high cliff, leaving you with a very long and risky second shot toward the elevated green, hard to reach if you want to have an eagle opportunity. you will then face the pretty par-3 7th hole, and its steeply... downhill green, surrounded by bunkers, before walking over to another par-3, the 8th hole (uphill and with a wide green), and finishing with the dogleg left par-4 9th, with trees splitting two fairways, lengthwise, midway, allowing you to choose which side you want to hit your tee shot... as expected, the back 9 has some very scary and difficult holes too, starting with the breathtaking and straight par-4 11th, simply gorgeous with its narrow fairway along a very steep ravine (on the right) and its steeply-elevated green, and the dogleg left par-5 12th, with a second shot over a big ravine (filled with trees) and an elevated green, guarded by a big bunker in front. then, after the straight par-3 13th, uphill all the way, two dogleg right holes await you (the par-4 14th and the par-5 15th), with the first one being tougher with its fairway winding its way left, then uphill to the right (past a wide sandy area, midway), even though the latter one has a more steeply-elevated green. the last three holes are not only beautiful, they are also quite challenging : the par-4 16th is a dogleg, bending to the left, along a sandy area ending behind the elevated green, and is followed by the scenic par-3 17th, with a tee shot flying between two mountains, and the pretty par-4 18th, uphill all the way, with a risky approach over another steep valley to reach the green, perched on a rocky mountain (with a beautiful house, offering a gorgeous panoramic view of the surroundings). with its spectacular views and nice trees all along, this a(lpine) a(scent) golf club deserves an a+, combining beauty and difficulty, and you will have your hands full trying to break par (especially with all those strategically-placed bunkers near the undulated greens) before heading for a well-deserved rest after completing your round !
p.s. i apologize, quietly, for not hearing the waterfall (as i, mistakenly, mentioned to you in the forum) ! turns out that i did not set the sound high enough (ha, ha) !

this course was reuploaded oct 16 2024. it is the same course that was uploaded in 2023, but there was a problem with the course on the site, so we had to reupload it. so when you already have the course installed, no need to reinstall it. |

as bruce ryder mentioned in his comments, this par 72 is not a piece of cake, with plenty of water hazards, strategically-placed bunkers and trees, and quite a few tricky greens. right off the bat, the opening par-4 hole sets the tone for what you will face, with an undulated fairway and trees hiding the view of the far away green (reachable after a blind second shot), just like the even tougher dogleg left par-4 2nd, with an elongated sand trap, midway (along a lake, on the right), making the fairway quite narrow, leaving you with another blind approach toward the green. then, after the pretty par-3 3rd hole, and its tee shot over a clover-shaped lake, you will move on to the par-5 4th, quite difficult with a narrow tree-lined fairway, winding its way to the right, midway, then to the left toward the green, guarded by a big bunker in front. the next few holes are not easy ones either, starting with the dogleg right par-4 5th, with a bunker, midway (on the outer corner), and trees, in the inner side, making the fairway narrow and your club selection quite tricky if you want to reach the green (with trees hiding it), and continuing with the nice ar-3 6th, with a tee shot over a serpentine lake, and the dogleg right par-4 7th, with a tough tee shot flying over a lake and landing between trees (on the left) and a big bunker, midway (on the right), and an elevated green to aim for. you will then face one of the toughest holes on this course with the dogleg right par-5 8th, hard to figure out, with a tee shot over the water landing onto a narrow fairway, with trees on the edge of a lake (on the right) and a small elongated bunker (on the left, midway), before finishing with the short, but not easy, par-4 9th, with a small mound on the green, near the cup, reachable from the tee with a blind shot over the lake, midway. more challenges await you on the back 9, starting with the pretty par-3 10th hole, with a blind tee shot to get to the green, hidden by trees, followed by the par-4 11th, and its tricky green (again, with mounds around the cup), and the short dogleg par-5 12th, bending sharply to the left, with its fairway hugging a lake, and with a blind second shot toward the green, with a couple of more trees in the way... after the dogleg right par-4 13th hole and the very narrow par-4 14th, with trees on both sides (and a second shot over a lake across toward the green, partially hidden by trees), two tough doglegs await you : the par-5 15th hole bends sharply to the left around a lake and has a downhill green, hard to reach with more trees in the way (on the left), whereas the par-4 16th is also pretty, along a lake (on the left) and with a narrow undulated fairway. last, but not least, after the wide open and bare dogleg right par-4 17th hole, along a lake (on the left) and a green, again hidden by a few trees, the long par-3 18th will offer you one last challenge with its undulated green and small pot bunker in front to watch for ! with its nice mountain panorama, this mountain waters golf club is pretty to look at but it can easily turn into a nightmare if you don’t plan your shots carefully as plenty of obstacles stand in your way, be it water hazards, bunkers and/or trees, not to mention its greens, hard to read with its slopes and/or undulations. and with its long par-3 holes and short, but very tricky par-5s, you will have plenty of tough decisions to make if you want to finish with a decent scorecard... |
