chipgill, i really enjoyed lake st louis, had some tough drives, but played absolutely fair, good bounces and bad. and in addition, i appreciate your willingness to accept comments regarding the course, something that doesn't happen much anymore. i'll keep lake st louis because it's a "real" course, which is what i enjoy.

thanks again, chipgill.

despite writing my usual novel below (ha, ha !), i forgot to mention that the texture used for the rocks is great, and that the view of the mountain as you reach the 18th green is simply superb !
and, believe it or not, quietly used only... 3 libraries to create this spectacular course...

another beautiful course from quietly, with breathtaking (and scary !) mountains views, uphill all the way, and with steeply-elevated greens, making your approaches quite tricky, club-wise.
right off the bat, you will see what’s in store for you with the pretty dogleg left par-4 1st hole, before continuing, after two straight ones (par-5 2nd and its little bridge, midway, and the par-4 3rd, with its heavily-slanted fairway and undulated green), with the dogleg right par-4 4th, with a tee shot over deep rough and bushes and a blind approach toward a steeply-elevated green.
but the best has yet to come, with the gorgeous par-4 5th hole (my favorite), with a very tricky tee shot over a serpentine area filled with bunkers and bushes right in front of a narrow green, set right in front of a beautiful waterfall running down from a high cliff, and the scenic dogleg left par-5 6th, with that cascade again (next to the tee box, on the left) and a tee shot around trees on top of that high cliff, leaving you with a very long and risky second shot toward the elevated green, hard to reach if you want to have an eagle opportunity.
you will then face the pretty par-3 7th hole, and its steeply... downhill green, surrounded by bunkers, before walking over to another par-3, the 8th hole (uphill and with a wide green), and finishing with the dogleg left par-4 9th, with trees splitting two fairways, lengthwise, midway, allowing you to choose which side you want to hit your tee shot...
as expected, the back 9 has some very scary and difficult holes too, starting with the breathtaking and straight par-4 11th, simply gorgeous with its narrow fairway along a very steep ravine (on the right) and its steeply-elevated green, and the dogleg left par-5 12th, with a second shot over a big ravine (filled with trees) and an elevated green, guarded by a big bunker in front.
then, after the straight par-3 13th, uphill all the way, two dogleg right holes await you (the par-4 14th and the par-5 15th), with the first one being tougher with its fairway winding its way left, then uphill to the right (past a wide sandy area, midway), even though the latter one has a more steeply-elevated green.
the last three holes are not only beautiful, they are also quite challenging : the par-4 16th is a dogleg, bending to the left, along a sandy area ending behind the elevated green, and is followed by the scenic par-3 17th, with a tee shot flying between two mountains, and the pretty par-4 18th, uphill all the way, with a risky approach over another steep valley to reach the green, perched on a rocky mountain (with a beautiful house, offering a gorgeous panoramic view of the surroundings).
with its spectacular views and nice trees all along, this a(lpine) a(scent) golf club deserves an a+, combining beauty and difficulty, and you will have your hands full trying to break par (especially with all those strategically-placed bunkers near the undulated greens) before heading for a well-deserved rest after completing your round !

p.s. i apologize, quietly, for not hearing the waterfall (as i, mistakenly, mentioned to you in the forum) ! turns out that i did not set the sound high enough (ha, ha) !

this course was reuploaded oct 16 2024.
it is the same course that was uploaded in 2023, but there was a problem with the course on the site, so we had to reupload it.
so when you already have the course installed, no need to reinstall it.

as bruce ryder mentioned in his comments, this par 72 is not a piece of cake, with plenty of water hazards, strategically-placed bunkers and trees, and quite a few tricky greens.
right off the bat, the opening par-4 hole sets the tone for what you will face, with an undulated fairway and trees hiding the view of the far away green (reachable after a blind second shot), just like the even tougher dogleg left par-4 2nd, with an elongated sand trap, midway (along a lake, on the right), making the fairway quite narrow, leaving you with another blind approach toward the green.
then, after the pretty par-3 3rd hole, and its tee shot over a clover-shaped lake, you will move on to the par-5 4th, quite difficult with a narrow tree-lined fairway, winding its way to the right, midway, then to the left toward the green, guarded by a big bunker in front.
the next few holes are not easy ones either, starting with the dogleg right par-4 5th, with a bunker, midway (on the outer corner), and trees, in the inner side, making the fairway narrow and your club selection quite tricky if you want to reach the green (with trees hiding it), and continuing with the nice ar-3 6th, with a tee shot over a serpentine lake, and the dogleg right par-4 7th, with a tough tee shot flying over a lake and landing between trees (on the left) and a big bunker, midway (on the right), and an elevated green to aim for.
you will then face one of the toughest holes on this course with the dogleg right par-5 8th, hard to figure out, with a tee shot over the water landing onto a narrow fairway, with trees on the edge of a lake (on the right) and a small elongated bunker (on the left, midway), before finishing with the short, but not easy, par-4 9th, with a small mound on the green, near the cup, reachable from the tee with a blind shot over the lake, midway.
more challenges await you on the back 9, starting with the pretty par-3 10th hole, with a blind tee shot to get to the green, hidden by trees, followed by the par-4 11th, and its tricky green (again, with mounds around the cup), and the short dogleg par-5 12th, bending sharply to the left, with its fairway hugging a lake, and with a blind second shot toward the green, with a couple of more trees in the way...
after the dogleg right par-4 13th hole and the very narrow par-4 14th, with trees on both sides (and a second shot over a lake across toward the green, partially hidden by trees), two tough doglegs await you : the par-5 15th hole bends sharply to the left around a lake and has a downhill green, hard to reach with more trees in the way (on the left), whereas the par-4 16th is also pretty, along a lake (on the left) and with a narrow undulated fairway.
last, but not least, after the wide open and bare dogleg right par-4 17th hole, along a lake (on the left) and a green, again hidden by a few trees, the long par-3 18th will offer you one last challenge with its undulated green and small pot bunker in front to watch for !
with its nice mountain panorama, this mountain waters golf club is pretty to look at but it can easily turn into a nightmare if you don’t plan your shots carefully as plenty of obstacles stand in your way, be it water hazards, bunkers and/or trees, not to mention its greens, hard to read with its slopes and/or undulations. and with its long par-3 holes and short, but very tricky par-5s, you will have plenty of tough decisions to make if you want to finish with a decent scorecard...

i am not much of a deg leg person...i prefer cats! however i understand that this is a joint effort and that chipgill has lots of dog legs on his courses. so, my impression. i like the course. the planting is not overdone like on many fantasy courses and it plays well. i think it is actually a very realistic looking and playing course. good job guys!

today the course file was replaced on request of the designers, with a few minor updates.
a few areas on hole 11 on the course needed to be smoothed and fixed a little.
so when you want to play the updated version, then you have to uninstall the course, and redownload and reinstall the course with this updated version.

well, for a first course, the b&c team (bruce ryder and chipgill ?) did a pretty good job as this par 72 is quite pretty to look at with its small mountain panorama (and a couple of villages, a little bit apart), big lakes and smaller water hazards, not to mention the... deer grazing around !
after a “gentle” start with two par-4 holes (1st, with the flag set to the right, and the 2nd, with the pin set to the left), and a par-3 3rd, you will see water for the first time on the dogleg right par-4 4th, even though the two lakes are not real hazards (the first one, two-thirds of the way on the right, being a little bit too far from the green, and the second one, a little bit closer and to the left of the green).
the next two holes, however, are a different story as the dogleg par-5 5th has a fairway hugging a lake (on the left) and bends sharply to the right with a green, hard to reach on your second shot, and is followed by the dogleg right par-6th, around a wide lake (with a few trees along the edge) and a blind second shot toward the green.
as for the last three holes, you will need to hit a tough and long approach toward the green of the dogleg right par-5 7th, hidden by trees, before hitting another blind second shot to reach the green of the par-4 9th.
coming home, one of my favorite holes is the nice dogleg right par-4 10th, with its fairway quite narrow midway, with a big lake (on the left) and a few small trees planted along an elongated dirt area (on the right), and its risky approach toward the green with a small pond across in front to watch for.
the par-3 11th hole is nice, with its narrow and elevated green (and a few trees, on the left), whereas the dogleg right par-5 12th is a little bit tricky with an uphill approach to the green, hidden by a few trees.
then, after the par-3 14th hole, with a green set between two elongated bunkers (front and back), you will face the scenic par-4 15th, with its undulated fairway hugging a lake (on the left) and a blind and downhill approach to the green, before walking over to the short dogleg par-5 16th, with a narrow undulated fairway, bending sharply around a wide lake (midway, on the left), and with an elongated bunker (in the inner corner), and a blind second shot downward to the green.
you will complete your round with the par-3 17th hole, with a small round pond in front of the green, before trying to finish with an eagle on the par-5 18th, with its flag, set slightly to the right.
overall, with its wide open look, this dog gone golf club course is quite enjoyable and, if you can avoid the water (and the deer !), you should enjoy it even on a... dog day afternoon !

another imaginative and challenging course from chimaera design, with some undulated and (at times) narrow fairways, elevation changes (with a couple of blind shots... over a couple of small buildings !), and quite pretty with beautiful lakes (filled with a few reeds) and stone medieval-like structures to gaze at and... watch for !
after the nice and straight opening par-4 hole, quite unusual with a high stone wall all across the fairway, midway, over which you will need to hit your approach to reach the downhill green, you will move on to the scenic par-3 2nd, with its wide lake and its sloped green, before heading for the very difficult dogleg left par-5 3rd, with an undulated fairway, where you can forget about getting an eagle with a blind third shot needed to reach its elevated green.
another unusual sight awaits you on the dogleg right par-4 4th hole, with a tee shot over a rotunda-shaped building, before facing the par-3 5th, with its green set next to that rotunda (on the right).
then, after two easier holes (dogleg left par-4 6th and the par-4 7th), you will need to hit another tee shot over that wide lake on the par-3 8th, before finishing with the straight and long par-5 9th, with two stone walls across the fairway, far apart (both with stone ramps) and a big rectangular pond, surrounded by stoned arches on the left below the fairway.
you will start your way home, back the other way with the dogleg left par-4 10th hole, with a tee shot over that pond and a nice green, surrounded halfway by a small amphitheater, then move on to the tough and pretty dogleg right par-5 12th, with a downhill tee shot landing onto a fairway, quite narrow (with an elongated bunker, on the left, and trees on the banks of a wide lake, on the right), leaving you with an almost-impossible second shot if you want to reach its peninsula green.
the par-4 13th hole is not only spectacular, bending very sharply to the right around a wide lake, it is also quite risky (as you may be tempted to try to reach the green with your driver), and is followed by the dogleg right par-4 14th, with a wide lake (on the right) and a blind and steeply-uphill approach over a u-shaped small building (and its small garden) to get to the wide green, further behind !
finally, after the straight par-4 15th hole, and its tee shot landing short of a wide stream linking two small lakes (on both sides), and the dogleg left par-4 16th, with a downhill tee shot over an elongated lake landing between bunkers on both sides of the fairway, midway (and with an elevated green), you will complete your round with the dogleg right par-4 17th hole, with a tee shot over a stone wall and ramp landing downward to the fairway (with a blind and downhill approach to the green), and the straight par-4 18th, with a tee shot downward a narrow tree-lined and undulated fairway, before aiming your last approach toward its elevated green.
with its nice plantings and interesting layout, not to mention its (sometimes) tricky shots, this par 72 is a very enjoyable fantasy course and a nice tribute to stormy, thanks, again, to chimaera design's creativity (even though i did not see a single deer around, as mentioned by chadlegend) !

a rather dull course, with mostly wide fairways and greens, and with trees looking similar (in height and shape), but it was, apparently, hockeyfreak’s second course only, at that time !
the front 9 is more interesting as water is present on quite a few holes, starting with the par-4 1st, with a second shot over a serpentine river in the direction of the green (slightly to the left), and continuing with the par-3 2nd, with a tee shot over the river again (and with five bunkers behind surrounding the green), and the par-4 3rd, with a tee shot over the river and a green, slightly to the right.
then, after a couple of dogleg holes (left par-4 4th, right par-4 5th), you will need to hit a tee shot over a small creek crossing the fairway on the par-3 6th hole, before facing the dogleg right par-5 7th, with a tee shot over a serpentine creek, and finishing with the par-3 8th, with a tee shot over the river, and the par-4 9th, with a stream winding its way, on the left of the fairway, and over which you will have to hit your approach as it crosses the fairway.
the back 9 is not really challenging, but the last two dogleg left par-5 holes will test you, especially the longer 18th, with a second shot over the river running across the fairway.
if this highland meadows golf course is not the most exciting one you will ever play (and if it has a couple of flaws – trees planted on the cart path, for example), it runs smoothly and was a good “starting point” for hockeyfreak who went on to design much nicer ones in the following years...

a very enjoyable course, pretty to look at and quite challenging with undulated fairways, water hazards, slight elevation changes and with a few tough undulated greens to deal with.
on the front 9, my favorite holes are the dogleg par-4 1st, around a wide lake (on the left), the pretty par-3 2nd, with a small lake near the green (on the right) and a huge lake behind (with a beautiful bridge across), and the dogleg left par-4 3rd, with trees in the inner corner of a lake, hiding the view of the downhill and sloped green.
but the most beautiful and challenging hole is the dogleg right par-5 4th, with a tee shot over water landing onto a peninsula fairway (with trees in the corner, on the right) and a second shot along the lake again to reach the small green.
then, after a couple of “easier” holes (straight and short par-4 5th, doglegs right par-4 6th and 7th), the par-3 8th is quite nice with, again, the wide lake and the long bridge behind the green.
you will start your way back, with the pretty but very tough dogleg right par-5 10th hole, with trees on the edge of the lake (in front, midway), forcing you to hit your tee shot to the left before aiming your long second shot toward the peninsula green, before walking over to the dogleg par-4 11th, bending very sharply around a wide lake (on the right), with trees hiding the fairway, making your tee shot quite adventurous if you want to hit it over them to shorten the distance to the elevated green.
fortunately, the next few holes are less difficult if you can avoid the strategically-placed bunkers, spread along the fairways, left and right (nice par-3 12th, with an elevated green, surrounded by small bunkers in front, straight and slightly downhill par-4 13th, quite short - around 330 yards) or the hidden small pond across the fairway, midway and only.. visible after you hit your blind and downhill tee shot on the triky par-4 14th hole.
as for the last par-5 hole, the 17th, you should be able to get an eagle opportunity as the fairway is quite wide and the green is reachable on your second shot if you can avoid the big elongated bunker (on the right).
with its nice plantings, small houses and its big lakes, this major thriven's golf & country club plays very smoothly and was one of m.g.a. hover’s best fantasy courses, way back in... september 2007, when it was released !

after reading the designer’s comments, i hesitated playing this course, not knowing what to expect in terms of his “sadistic twist”.
well, as it turned out, after the straight par-4 1st hole, with deep rough splitting two parallel fairways (with the one on the right, hidden in front by trees), i got my hands full, starting with the very long (more than 630 yards) and straight par-5 2nd, with a second shot flying over deep rough in the direction of the green, reachable with a little bit of luck and a... lot of tailwind !
if the sharp dogleg left par-4 3rd hole is “reasonable”, with a tee shot landing short of an elongated lake and an approach over part of it toward the sloped green (partially hidden by trees), the dogleg left par-4 4th is tougher, with a tee shot flying above trees and a second shot over deep rough to get to the green, just like the par-3 5th, with a narrow gap between trees to reach the green.
the other par-5 hole (slightly-uphill dogleg left 6th) is even longer with deep rough, splitting the fairway twice before you can get to the green (set next to a small lake, below, on the left), and is followed by the straight and downhill par-3 7th, with a tee shot flying above a wide lake in the direction of the flag, surrounded by trees.
two par-4 holes follow : on the 8th, a few trees are on both sides of a narrow fairway, midway (set next to an elongated lake, on the right), leaving you with an uphill approach with plenty of deep rough in front of the green, and on the 9th, you will need to hit a blind and uphill second shot over water, two-thirds of the way branching out from an elongated lake (on the right), to reach the green.
the back 9 starts with another very long par-5 hole (almost 680 yards (!), along a lake (on the left), with a slightly-uphill second shot and a slightly-downhill approach to the green, and continues with three par-4 holes (11th, 12th and 13th), with greens often hidden by trees and hard to reach, just like on the par-3 14th, with its elevated green and its flag, again real close to the fringe.
as if woofer's sadistic touch was not enough, the dogleg left par-5 15th hole should definitely convince you, as it is 726 yards long (!) with, needless to say, no eagle opportunity but, fortunately, you might be able to get a couple of birdies on the straight par-4 16th, despite its narrow tree-lined slanted fairway and blind second shot toward the green, the long par-3 17th, with a blind tee shot toward an elevated green, hidden by trees, and the par-4 18th.
if, indeed, this par 72 has plenty of undulated fairways and a few water hazards, getting to the greens is very difficult, especially with trees often hiding them, not to mention putting with its flags, set near the fringes most of the time ! and with very long par-5 holes to top it all, don't be surprised if your score does not fall like... the niagara falls, unless you decide to put the blame on that bikini clad lady (shown on the logo), responsible for your loss of concentration !
