Another nicely-designed course from Bobby Bolin, quite wide open and pretty to look at, with slight elevation changes and a few water hazards, but not too difficult if you can manage to “survive” the middle holes (9th thru 14th). After the dogleg left opening par-4, uphill all the way, and the par3 2nd, the dogleg right par-4 3rd hole will test you as you will have to avoid a small mound, filled with deep rough (in the inner corner, making the fairway quite narrow), before aiming your second shot toward its slightly-elevated green. Then, after three down-and-up holes (short par-4 5th, par-4 7th, dogleg left par-5 8th), with a par-3 6th in between, you will get your hands full as you slowly start heading home, starting with the pretty par-4 9th hole, with a downhill tee shot landing onto a narrow fairway, hugging a lake (on the right), and an uphill approach to the green. On the dogleg right par-4 10th hole, your downhill tee shot will fly over water and, hopefully, land near a big mound (filled with deep rough) in the inner corner, making the fairway, again quite narrow, but you will face a tricky second shot if you want to try to reach its steeply-elevated green. The following par-3 11th hole is nice with a downhill tee shot landing past a small creek in front of the green, just like the two dogleg holes, the par-4 12th, bending to the right (with a tee shot over a creek) and the tougher par-4 13th, going left, with a tee shot flying downward along trees (on the left) and a tough approach over an elongated lake in front of the green. Another dogleg left hole awaits you with the par-5 14th, quite long and where you can forget about getting an eagle, with its elevated green, hidden by trees (on the left) but, thankfully, the last four holes (the wide open dogleg right par-4 15th, the nice par-3 16th, with an elevated green, surrounded by bunkers and next to the roads, and the two dogleg left 17th and 18th) should provide with an “easier” finish. With its beautiful greens to "admire" and its challenging holes, midway, this updated Country Club Brookline 2022 version is another proof of Bobby Bolin's talent to make us feel like we are right there, playing the US Open with the pros !
