An interesting links course with 18 slightly-uphill holes, some near the ocean (looking so-so on my PC), with some nice gorse bushes, a few pot bunkers and some small mounds, but not the most challenging one you will ever play in the UK. On the front 9, I like the right dogleg par-4 3rd hole, with a few small mounds scattered along the fairway on both sides and its slightly-elevated green, and the nice par-3 4th, along the wide sandy beach (on the left) and its undulating green, near the cup. If the par-3 6th hole is worth mentioning too, with 4 pot bunkers around the green (3 in front), I prefer the nice left dogleg par-5 7th, with a tee shot flying above two small serpentine streams on both sides of the fairway and a long approach toward the green with a couple of pot bunkers in front... I also like the left dogleg par-4 8th hole, with a tee shot over some small mounds and a nice view of the rocky slopes next to the ocean behind the green (with a lighthouse on the right), and the other left dogleg par-4 9th, with a tee shot over a small rocky valley, with the lighthouse on the far left, not far from the ocean, and its tricky green with a small undulation near the cup. The back 9 starts with the left dogleg par-4 10th hole (similar to the 9th) and continues with the pretty par-3 11th hole, with a narrow elevated green and a nice panoramic view of the plateau behind, filled with lots of bushes. Then, after the right dogleg par-4 13th hole, with a second shot parallel to a wide road on the left, the last four holes are nice : the par-3 15th has a small mound on the right side on the tee box and a nice panoramic view as you reach the green and the 16th hole is a right dogleg, with a second shot over a small serpentine stream in front of the green. As for the par-5 17th hole, you will need to hit your tee shot over a winding stream before aiming your blind and slightly-uphill approach to the green before moving on to the left dogleg par-4 18th, with a... slightly-downhill tee shot and a slightly-uphill second shot to the green. But, overall, if this par 70 is well designed by the PGAX team, with some nice finishing holes on the front and back 9, this Turnberry Ailsa course is not as tough as some other (and more well-known) British courses...
