Mauna Kea Hawaii Golf Course
Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr, opening in 1964, Mauna Kea was Hawaiis first great golf course. Located on the Kohala Coast of the Big Island, it remains the standard by which all others are judged. Covering 230 acres of beautiful landscape, the 18-hole, 72-par championship course presents dramatic changes in elevation, large undulating greens, and 120 well-placed bunkers. There are incredible panoramic sweeps of sea and land, featuring Mauna Kea, rugged lava beds, and the sparkling blue Pacific. One of the most spectacular features is the famous Third Hole – where surging inlet water races to meet the rocky shoreline, affording one of the most breathtaking views in golf today. As daunting as the third hole is, the 11th is Mauna Keas toughest par-3. The downhill tee shot drops over 100 feet from tee to green, which is surrounded by four bunkers.
