A very nice course, with a seldom-seen forest clearing, with plenty of tall trees planted in rows and often split by a lengthy ditch on the front 9, and a totally different but quite challenging back 9, with more elevation changes, a big lake and quite scenic. The first two holes are par-4 left doglegs, with a lengthy ditch splitting the fairway diagonally halfway on the 1st, and around the corner on the 2nd, and over which you will have to hit your approach shots. The right dogleg par-5 3rd hole is beautiful and tough with a slightly-uphill and blind tee shot over that big ditch again, midway, landing onto a very narrow fairway (with two bunkers on the left in the corner) and a long second shot toward the green. Then, after the uphill par-3 4th hole, you will face two right dogleg par-4s, with the 5th hole being nicer and more challenging with its narrow and winding fairway and its approach to the green over the ditch, than the 6th hole, and its wider fairway. The straight par-5 7th hole is slightly-uphill, with a very narrow tree-lined fairway and a green hard to reach on your second shot, and is followed by the right dogleg par-4 8th, quite pretty, with its narrow and winding fairway, “forcing” you to hit precise shots if you want to avoid landing in the ditch in the middle, and in the bunker in front, on the left of the green. You will finish with the short (about 315 yards) and risky par-4 9th hole, slightly-uphill with the ditch across, midway, and its green, a little bit on the left and hard to reach with your driver. As you stand on the tee box of the left dogleg par-4 10th, the scenery changes drastically : gone are the tall trees, replaced by much smaller ones, and the fairway is much wider. Water appears on the nice and uphill par-3 11th hole, with a big lake and plenty of trees behind and around the undulating green, and on the right dogleg par-4 12th, with a blind and uphill tee shot landing onto the fairway, hugging the lake on the left, and another blind but downhill shot to the sloped green. A pretty risk/reward hole awaits you on the straight but short (around 310 yards) par-4 13th, where you will have to decide if you want to go for broke and hit your tee shot over the wide lake to reach the elevated green or play it safe and land your ball to the far right, in front of the lake. If the par-5 14th hole is straight and slightly-uphill, it is very tricky too with trees partially hiding a big lake on the right, midway, forcing you to hit your tee shot to the left if you want to have a clearer view of the green on the right beyond the lake, just like on the par-4 15th, quite scenic with its serpentine creek, halfway, crossing the fairway twice, and over which you will have to hit two precise shots if you want to avoid landing in the water or into a few well-placed bunkers on your way to the sloped green. After the straight and slightly-uphill par-4 16th hole, and its wide fairway hugging a canal and a road on the left, you will finish with the left dogleg par-4 17th, with a small lake on the left in the corner, and an elevated green, before walking to the pretty par-3 18th hole, with a lake again on the left, and nice colorful bushes on the right of the wide green, with two small mounds to watch for. Overall, this Warande Golf & Country Club is a delightful surprise, with its picturesque scenery (especially on the front 9) and nice plantings, and you should have "double fun" playing this "two- courses-for-the-price-of-one" par 72, thanks to Wild Turkey's original design !
