Since its opening more than three years ago, Seven Canyons continues to receive rave reviews from the nation's foremost golf course critics and highly regarded golf publications. The Tom Weiskopf design has been acclaimed as one of America's 50 Greatest Golf Retreats by Golf Digest Index, rated one of the Best Residential Golf Courses and one of the Top 100 Modern Courses by Golfweek Magazine. Perhaps Bradley S. Klein,architecture editor for Golfweek, best characterized the golf experience at Seven Canyons when he simply wrote, "Seven Canyons is the "IMAX" of golf." A throwback to some of the great golf courses designed in the early 1900s, Seven Canyons is not long by modern standards, measuring 6,746 yards from the championship tees and playing to a par of 70.
This is my first attempt at using the Terrain Assist Tool in designing a real course. Many thanks to the following people who made this course possible. First to Maggie for suggesting that I design this course last year for the 07 version of the game. With no real stock desert libraries to work with on 07 I held off. The 08 version didn't bring us any other stock desert libraries so I was still hesitant on making it this year for 08. I decided to give it go using some of the 06 stock libraries for some of the desert planting. Thanks also to Brent, who made the outstanding panorama for the course last year. It sure adds to the realism having that to work with. Thanks to Roger and Jim for downloading the dem for me to use in working with the TA tool and to Chet for making the tool available for us all to use. And to Harry on improvement of my original course logo. And to all those who helped test the course for me: Frank, Harry, JB, Larry, Maggie, Otto, Ray and Roger. And thank you to the library designers, without your texture/structure libraries it wouldn't be possible for me to do any designing. I did
create a sound library used on the course with bird sounds of the Sedona, Arizona region.
I hope you all enjoy playing at Seven Canyons and if you like it, I just may be tempted to try my hand at designing another real course again. |
