Well, if you like light sand, you will be in for a royal treat with this well-designed PGAX... Royal Bahrain course, set in Riffa, with a few “sand... sational” views all around, and a pretty (and challenging) four-hole finishing stretch with an elongated lake to deal with. After the opening left dogleg par-4 hole, you will face the nice par-3 2nd, with a tee shot over plenty of sand to reach the green, before moving on to the right dogleg par-5 3rd hole, with a small pond, midway on the left, and a long second shot toward the green (with, again, plenty of sand on both sides of the fairway), then to the straight par-4 4th, with plenty of villas on the left side and sand all along the fairway on the right. On the right dogleg par-4 5th hole, you will have a dilemma as you get ready to tee off as it is possible to land your (“perfect”) tee shot beyond the small winding stream crossing the fairway midway, not far from the green (with nice villas behind it), unlike on the straight par-4 6th where, after an easy tee shot over another stream, you will discover a nice panoramic view as you reach the green, slightly to the right. Then, after the par-3 7th hole, and the left dogleg par-4 8th, with its undulating fairway, you will finish the front 9 with a right dogleg par-5, slightly-uphill all the way (with nice villas on a small hilltop on the right), and some “mysterious” wide paths (looking like a dry river) filled with grass and yellow lanes (!) all along. You will start the back 9 with the risk/reward par-4 10th hole, whose undulating green (about 310 yards away) is reachable with a precise tee shot flying over plenty of sand (depending on the wind direction), then continue on with the par-4 11th and par-3 12th holes (with that “dry river” on the left). Two consecutive (and slightly-uphill) par-5 holes follow, with the left dogleg 13th, and the tougher 14th with a tee shot over plenty of sand landing near a few palm trees on the right, midway (next to a tiny bridge), and another long shot over more sand toward the green, with a nice residential area behind and an elongated lake (on the right). Starting with the pretty par-4 15th hole, water comes into play, with a tee shot landing along the elongated lake on the left, and on the scenic par-3 16th, with another tough tee shot over it with sand on its edge, right in front of the green. You will finish with two more water holes, with the nice right dogleg par-4 17th, with a tee shot over the lake again, and a nice approach to the green (next to a big hotel further behind), and the par-4 18th, with a tee shot over more sand and the lake, all along on the right. With its nice sparsely-planted vegetation and sand all over, this par 72 is quite pretty to look at, offering a few challenging and scenic holes (especially on the back 9) and is quite enjoyable to watch and play, thanks to the PGAX designing team !
