A well-designed course, fun to play, with a wide open view of the valley, and with two artificial lakes offering some challenging holes along (and around) undulating fairways, with quite a few large bunkers around the greens to watch for. My favorite holes on the front 9 are the nice opening par-5, with a downhill tee shot landing between some bunkers on the right and in front of a wide lake, over which you will have to hit your long approach to reach the green, and the right dogleg par-4 2nd hole, with its panoramic view as you hit your downhill tee shot landing onto the undulating fairway followed by a slightly-uphill second shot to the green. I also like the long par-5 5th hole, with a downhill tee shot landing near an elongated lake on the right and a blind and tough approach toward the elevated green, guarded by four big bunkers in front... Then, after the right dogleg par-4 6th hole, downhill all the way and with another nice panoramic view, you will enjoy two of my favorite holes, the very scenic par-4 8th, with a second shot over part of the lake to reach the green set in the middle (at the end of a narrow fairway), and the beautiful right dogleg par-4 9th hole, uphill all the way, with a tee shot over the wide lake landing near a lone tree and some bushes on the right, and a green, with a very large puzzle-shaped bunker on the right, and two smaller ones on the left. Coming back, you will have a tough time trying to get an eagle on the left dogleg par-5 11th hole, uphill all the way, with plenty of deep rough and bushes on the left (midway), and a long and blind approach to the green (with three bunkers around), before moving later on to another pretty hole, the left dogleg par-4 14th, with a blind tee shot landing downward next to a lake on the left (with a wider one on the left) and two bunkers on the right. As for the last four holes, I like the par-3 15th, with its small green surrounded by three bunkers, and the right dogleg par-4 17th, with a blind and uphill tee shot over some medium rough... landing downhill before aiming for the green. Overall, with its nice undulating landscape and its serpentine paths set around those two lakes (with a few deer nearby), this PGAX Donnafugata Links course is delightful to watch and play, thanks to the CGX Team ! And after completing my round, I am already looking forward to playing the Parkland version...
