With big mountains as a backdrop, this par 71 is very pretty to look at and offers two distinctive challenges with the front 9, being more like a links course unlike the back 9, easier-looking at first with much wider fairways. After a nice opening par-4 hole, with a slightly-elevated green, I like the next four holes : the par-4 2nd is a right dogleg, with a tee shot over a serpentine creek (near the tee box) and a long second shot along another creek on the left side of the fairway ending past the green, and the par-5 3rd is a left dogleg, with a tee shot over a meandering creek and a long approach over another one crossing the fairway, not far from the green. The par-3 4rd hole, on another hand, is very pretty and tricky, with a tee shot over two ponds (a big one on the right and a smaller one on the left) and is followed by the right dogleg par-4 5th, with a tee shot over a winding creek and a second shot over another stream crossing the fairway, two-thirds of the way, and ending to the right of the green, guarded by two elongated bunkers. On the left dogleg par-4 7th hole, you will have to be careful to land your tee shot between two lakes on the right and trees in the left corner before aiming for the green with a slightly-uphill approach, just like on the par-4 9th, where you will need to be precise teeing off with a stream crossing the fairway midway and two bunkers right behind. The scenery then changes drastically on the back 9, starting with the right dogleg par-5 10th hole, with a wide fairway and a long second shot flying over a small stream across the fairway, two-thirds of the way, toward a wide green, before heading later on to the left dogleg par-4 12th, with plenty of trees lined up on the left side and an approach over a big pond to reach the green. The par-3 13th hole is pretty, with a tee shot flying through a small gap between trees bordering a big stream, and landing onto a wide green, just like the nice right dogleg par-5 14th, with a tee shot over trees and that big stream again and a long approach to the wide green. The par-4 15th hole is a sharply-to-the-left dogleg, with a few big trees and bunkers in the corner and a stream running across the fairway midway, a little bit further, and is followed by my favorite hole, the very scenic par-3 16th, with a downhill slope to the green, guarded by a small crescent-shaped pond and a crescent-shaped bunker in front (and to the right), with a small mound and a few trees behind. You will finish your round with the par-4 18th hole, with a tee shot over a small stream running across the fairway midway, and a beautiful approach to the green, with a wide lake on the left (with a nice small bridge to gaze at) and the clubhouse/hotel further behind. Well designed by the CGX team, this Prosper New Course is a very pleasant surprise and is fun to play, offering various challenging shots, with quite a few water hazards to watch for. So before heading for the B version (the Old course), be sure to... check out this course set in the... Czech Republic !
