Another well-designed course from the CGX team, with a forest and some small mountains behind as a backdrop and a challenging front 9 with plenty of water hazards, but lacking a little bit of excitement, especially on the easier back 9. Right off the bat, water comes into play, starting with the short par-5 1st hole, where you will have an eagle opportunity if you can get your long approach shot over the creek running across the fairway in front of the green (set on a little mound with bunkers around), and continuing with the straight par-4 2nd, where you should putt for a birdie after hitting your tee shot over the meandering stream midway and your second shot onto the green, slightly uphill. Water is again a factor on the next two left dogleg par-4 holes, with an approach over a serpentine creek to reach the green on the 3rd, and a delicate second shot to the green with a stream running halfway behind (with a big lake close to it) on the more wide-open 4th hole. Then, after the par-3 5th hole, whose green is not far from the stream on the left, water is no longer present on the next two par-4 holes and the fairways are narrower, as you will see on the left dogleg 6th, and the nicer right dogleg 7th, with plenty of bunkers on the right side as your hit your approach to the elevated green. On the scenic par-3 8th hole, however, you will have to hit your tee shot over the creek crossing the fairway diagonally in front of the green (and flowing halfway around behind) while avoiding two elongated bunkers on the sides, before facing the right dogleg par-5 9th where, once again, you might putt for an eagle after hitting your tee shot over a little stream across and firing a long approach to the narrow green. The back 9, however, is not as tough or scenic with plenty of tee shots over some medium rough landing onto wide fairways (par-4 10th, 11th, 12th and 14th holes) but, fortunately, the par-3 13th is pretty, with a “smiley-shaped” small stream in front of the green, and the right dogleg par-5 15th will offer you another eagle chance after a long tee shot over medium rough and a long approach toward the green, with three little bunkers to watch for. As for the par-3 16th hole, it is quite nice with a tee shot along trees on the right and over a small creek running in front of the green... But, with a rather lackluster back 9, this CGX Torino Blue course might give you the... blues, unless you manage to avoid all those water hazards on the front 9 and score a few eagles on all par-5 holes or score a... hole-in-one as I did on the 5th hole !
