A or B version ? Once again, it does not matter which version you will play, as your score should be about the same on this pretty, well-designed and enjoyable course from the CGX team, with a nice ocean as a panorama, beautiful plantings (with short trees and a lot of big bushes), but rather “easy” despite plenty of undulating fairways and a few steep approaches to the greens, and a couple of water hazards on the more scenic back 9.
My favorite holes on the front 9 are the scenic par-3 2nd hole, with a downhill tee shot over a small shallow valley, filled with trees, the par-3 4th, slightly-downhill, with a tiny green, framed by two small bunkers, the par-4 5th hole, with a steeply-downhill and blind tee shot landing onto an undulating fairway and a green, slightly to the right, and the left dogleg par-5 8th, with another undulating fairway and slightly-uphill all the way.
But I prefer the prettier and more challenging back 9, starting with the right dogleg par-4 11th hole, with a big pond on the left, not too far from the tee box (with a big tree in the middle), an undulating fairway and an uphill approach to the green, and continuing with the par-3 12th, with a nice panoramic view of the course, and a few residential buildings and the ocean further behind as you reach the green.
The par-4 13th hole is quite short (350 yards), with that pond, again on the left side, not far from the tee box, a downhill tee shot and a green, slightly to the right, and is followed by the nice left dogleg par-5 14th, uphill all the way, with a tee shot over a small creek, crossing the fairway, and a small elongated lake to the right of the green.
One of my favorite holes on the back 9 is the very scenic par-3 15th, with a slightly-uphill tee shot over a big lake flowing from the left and ending in the middle, right in front of the green (with a nice clubhouse and a parking lot further behind).
Then, after the par-4 17th hole, with its heavily-undulating fairway and uphill approach to the green, you will finish your round with the very short par-4 18th, where you should be able to reach the green with your driver and have one last shot at an eagle opportunity...
With its nice landscape, this par 72 will offer you a pleasant round of golf with, icing on the cake, eagle opportunities on all four par-5 holes, another reason why you should have fun at this CGX Durban Country Club !
