With its beautiful rocky mountain panorama and nice plantings, this Haywood’s canyon course is visually attractive, with a front 9 a little bit more challenging and scenic than the back 9, even though this par 72 is not overly difficult, compared to some other courses designed by Micko. The first two holes are nice with the straight par-5 1st, having a big pond on the right, midway, turning into a small stream crossing the fairway in front of the green, and the par-3 2nd hole, being uphill, with a tee shot over some deep rough and a small pond, halfway. Then, after the next three holes, I like the last four : the par-4 6th is a left dogleg, with trees around the left corner (with two bunkers further behind on both sides of the fairway) and an uphill approach over a big pond to reach the green, just like the par-4 7th hole, quite scenic, with a slightly-downhill tee shot landing, midway, between a big elongated bunker on the left and a lake on the right, and a blind second shot upward to the green, with 3 small bunkers on the sides. The par-3 8th hole is also very picturesque, with a slightly-downhill tee shot landing onto the green, surrounded by a u-shaped small lake (with nice bushes and flowers behind on the left), whereas the par-5 9th is a right dogleg, with a slightly-downhill tee shot along trees on the right side (with two elongated bunkers on both sides, halfway, and a big elongated bunker on the left of the green), and a nice clubhouse further behind. The back 9 starts with the wide open right dogleg par-4 10th hole, with a slightly downhill tee shot landing near a small stream crossing the fairway, midway (with a nice small stone wall all along on both sides) and a slightly-elevated green, and is followed, a little bit later, by the left dogleg par-5 13th, with a slightly-downhill tee shot landing near two bunkers on both sides of the fairway, halfway, and a long and uphill approach to the undulating green. You will then reach one of my favorite holes, the par-3 14th, looking a little bit like a postcard with a slightly-uphill tee shot toward the green, next to a small pond (set at the bottom of a small rocky hill behind), bordered by a nice fence, and with three small bunkers in front and one behind on the left ! Two left dogleg par-4 holes follow, with the uphill 15th, requiring a blind approach toward the green with a bunker on the left and a small mound on the right (both in front) to watch for, and the nicer 16th, downhill all the way, with a small mound in the left corner, midway, and a nice approach over a small stream crossing the fairway, not too far from the green. You will complete your round with the right dogleg par-5 18th hole where, after hitting a slightly-downhill tee shot, you will have to be careful with your uphill approach to the elevated green, as two bunkers await your errant shot on the sides... Once again, Micko came up with another beautiful course where you might spend more time gazing at the scenery than playing, and where you should finish with a low score, which is nice to have, once in a while !
