Another very scenic course, set on an atoll, with beautiful vegetation, gorgeous villas and hotels (next to the ocean) and not too difficult, with its wide fairways and greens, as long as you can avoid the few small and well-placed bunkers in the middle of the fairways, as mentioned in the general info by Neil Munro. After two nice opening holes, you will see those bunkers in the middle of the fairways on the par-4 3rd and 4th holes, before facing the long (more than 620 yards) par-5 5th, where you will need to hit a blind tee shot over thick trees and two more shots to reach the green. The right dogleg par-4 8th is another pretty hole, with a tee shot over small trees and beautiful villas on the right and a small lake on the left, midway. Then, after the par-4 9th hole and its (very) wide fairway, you will head back the other way with the short (less than 360 yards) par-4 10th, with its nice small meandering creek crossing the fairway right in front of the green. The right dogleg par-4 11th hole is quite nice with a tee shot over a small lake, just like the right dogleg par-5 14th, very pretty with its undulating fairway and gorgeous villas all along on the right side, and where you should be able to putt for an eagle after hitting your slightly-uphill approach toward the green. I also like the last three holes : the par-4 16th is a right dogleg with a tee shot over a wide lake and an uphill approach to the green, and is followed by the par-3 17th hole, with a blind and slightly-uphill tee shot over some deep rough, which will leave you enough time to admire the nice panoramic view as you reach the green. You will finish your round with the superb par-4 18th hole, with The Kahala majestic hotel, halfway on the left (facing the ocean), before hitting your last shot toward the green, with another beautiful small hotel complex behind and more water on the right. With its breathtaking views and a few challenging holes, not to mention its cute sailing boats as tee markers, this par 72 is quite fun to play and a very nice way to think of... Scotland, while being so far away, thanks to Neil Munro’s nice inspirational design.
