This course is one of the best designed by the CGX team, with a beautiful and very hilly countryside, nice plantings, spacious and gorgeous villas, and is quite challenging too, with plenty of blind tee shots, a few water hazards and some well-placed bunkers. You will be off to a beautiful start with the panoramic par-4 1st hole, with a tee shot downward an undulating fairway (with nice homes above on the far right), and a nice approach over a path across to reach the green, before heading to the par-3 2nd, slightly downhill, (along a road on the far right), and with a very wide bunker in front on the left of the green. The next two holes are simply gorgeous : the par-5 3rd is downhill all the way, with a tough approach shot over an elongated lake, slightly to the left, to reach the green above, just like the short (less than 300 yards) par-4 4th hole, quite risky if you want to reach the green from the tee, with a blind and steeply-downhill tee shot over deep rough, bushes and a wide lake, ending in front of the green. Then, after the par-5 5th hole, with a downhill tee shot and a long uphill approach to the elevated green, with a wide bunker in front (on the right), and the par-3 6th, with three wide bunkers around the downhill green, you will move on to the wide open left dogleg par-4 7th hole, with plenty of bushes on both sides of the downhill fairway, before hitting an uphill approach toward the green. The scenic right dogleg par-5 8th hole is one of my favorites, with a blind and steeply-downhill tee shot over a serpentine path (with some small bushes in the middle of the fairway, a little bit further), and a long second shot toward the slightly-elevated and sloped green. You will then finish the front 9 with a left dogleg par-4 hole, with a heavily-undulating fairway, and an elevated green. A nice downhill panoramic view awaits you on the par-3 10th hole, with a tee shot over a meandering path (with a tiny stream running below on the right), before you walk over to the very pretty par-5 11th, downhill all the way, with a winding fairway, and a blind second shot over some trees across, midway, and with a creek running along on the right side past the green, guarded by three big bunkers in front (to the right). After the nice par-3 12th hole, with a downhill tee shot over a meandering creek midway, you will face two more beautiful holes, the par-4 13th, with a blind and downhill tee shot over a serpentine creek landing onto an undulating fairway, and a tough approach over the creek again with a lone and tall tree (on the right), partially hiding the view of the green, and the par-4 14th hole, very steeply-uphill, with bunkers on the right, two–thirds of the way and more bunkers in front of the green. But the left dogleg par-4 15th hole is even more spectacular, with a blind and very steeply-downhill tee shot over a meandering creek going across (giving you enough time to admire the gorgeous panoramic view), and a second shot toward the slightly-elevated green, with three bunkers around, in front ! Then, after the uphill right dogleg par-4 16th hole, and the par-3 17th, with its pretty panoramic view as your reach the green (especially on the left side with nice villas and tennis courts below), you will finish with the beautiful left dogleg par-5 18th hole, with a blind and steeply-downhill tee shot and a very long and slightly-downhill approach toward the green. Believe it or not, this Finca Cortesin course would look even better without some of those sponsor signs (especially the ones... floating in the lakes on the 3rd and 4th holes !) but it is a minor detail, as this par 72 is superbly designed by the CGX team !
