A well-designed and challenging course, not overly spectacular but tougher than it looks with plenty of strategically-planted trees, forcing you to think twice before hitting your shots, with a few narrow fairways, some water hazards, a couple of tricky greens, and a tougher back 9 with a nice three-hole finishing stretch. After the opening par-4 hole and the par-3 2nd, with a lake on the left and behind the green, I like the right dogleg par-4 3rd hole, with its elongated lake on the right, midway (bordered by a few trees), ending in a little stream in front of the green. On the par-4 5th hole, you will need to hit a tee shot between a few trees, left and right, making the fairway quite narrow, before heading for the par-3 6th where, once again, you will have to watch out for trees, halfway on the left, partially hiding the green, further behind... Then, after the nice right dogleg par-4 7th hole, with trees in the corner and two tiny ponds across in front of the green, you will be challenged on the par-5 8th, with a lone tree halfway on the right, making the fairway quite narrow (and blocking the view of the green), and on the par-4 9th hole, with another lone tree, right in the middle of the fairway, midway, next to a nice winding road on the left. Coming back, you will start with the dogleg par-4 10th hole, with a downhill tee shot and some trees in the way near the tee box, and an approach shot to the slightly-elevated green to the left, before moving on to the right dogleg par-4 11th, with trees on the right side, blocking the view of the fairway in the corner. The next two holes are quite nice : the par-5 13th is a long and left dogleg, with a big lone tree halfway on the left, over which you will have to hit your approach shot to reach the slightly-elevated green, surrounded by palm trees (with a bunker on both sides in front), and the left dogleg par-4 14th hole is quite scenic, with a tee shot landing past a serpentine creek across the fairway ending in the elongated lake on the left. The last three holes, after the right dogleg par-4 15th (with an elongated lake on the left of the tee box), are pretty and challenging too : on the par-3 16th, you will need to hit a downhill tee shot over a big elongated lake across in front of the green (while enjoying a nice panoramic view as you reach it), before teeing off on the right dogleg par-4 17th hole, with an elongated lake, midway on the left, and trees on the other side in the corner hiding the view of the green (way back), and finishing with the left dogleg par-4 18th, with a downhill tee shot and an uphill approach to the green. To master this Castellon... Masters, you will have to be patient and carefully choose your clubs before hitting your shots if you want to finish with a nice score on this very pleasant course, designed by the CGX team !
