Very challenging course, with water coming into play on every single hole, and with quite a few wide greenside bunkers to watch for. On the front 9, my favorite holes, after the opening left dogleg par-4, with a tee shot over a winding river, is the right dogleg par-5 2nd, with plenty of water, halfway on the right (but with quite a few... trees in it !) and a river on the left, and with a long and blind approach shot to the island green (with a wide bunker in front), and the less difficult right dogleg par-4 3rd hole, slightly-uphill all the way, with a tee shot over more water. Then, after the par-3 4th hole, with more water around most of its wide green, you will face the right dogleg par-4 5th, with a fairway hugging the river on the right, with a bunker on the left and trees on the right, halfway, with a slightly-elevated green. On the par-3 7th hole, you will have to avoid the fans standing right in front (!), not far from the tee box, before hitting your tee shot over a river crossing the fairway, a little bit further, in order to reach the wide green, with a big bunker in front on the right and more water behind, before moving on to the short (around 500 yards) right dogleg par-5 8th, with water on the right, a river on the left and a big half-moon-shaped bunker in front (and to the left) of the green, with a smaller one on the right, in front. Another beautiful and challenging hole is the par-4 9th, with a winding peninsula fairway, with water on both sides and a second shot over more water to reach the green. The back 9 starts with the short (around 460 yards) left dogleg par-5 10th hole, with a tee shot over a little creek followed by a very long approach to the green with, unfortunately, more trees in the water all along on the right, not too far from the green. After the par-4 11th hole, with its tree-lined fairway between 2 rivers, with the one on the right being the closest (and more small trees in the water !), the par-3 12th, with 4 small bunkers in front of the green, and the par-4 13th hole, with trees along the river on the right, and an elevated green, I like the par-4 14th hole, with a slightly-downhill tee shot and a second shot over the river crossing the fairway, and a slightly-uphill green to aim for. The par-4 15th hole is one of my favorites, with a slightly-uphill tee shot landing near some bunkers behind the river, crossing the fairway halfway, and with a slightly-elevated green, (with a wide bunker in front), just like the short (about 520 yards) right dogleg par-5 16th, quite pretty, but very tough, with a tee shot over the serpentine river on the right (and a little more water on the left), and a very long second shot to the green with that small river across, in front of the green, with a wide bunker on the right. Finally, after the par-3 17th hole, with water on the right in front of the green and two elongated bunkers on both sides, you will conclude with the right dogleg par-4 18th, with trees along the fairway on the right and an approach shot over the small river toward the slightly-elevated green, guarded by a wide bunker in front on the left. On this Lake Malaren North Forest course, you will have to hit very precise shots to avoid all those water hazards and well-placed wide bunkers if you want to score well, and that's why it is a nice one to keep !
