With a very nice green and hilly countryside, colorful flowers and bushes, rollercoaster fairways, and plenty of big water hazards, this par 72 will challenge you, especially on your approach shots to the greens, often surrounded by well-placed bunkers. On the front 9, I like the right dogleg par-4 2nd hole, downhill all the way with a blind tee shot with trees on the right, not far from the tee box, and a big elongated lake, midway further to the left (and ending next to the green), and the pretty par-3 4th hole, uphill to the green, with a few palm trees and plenty of red flowers behind. On the par-5 5th hole, after a slightly-uphill tee shot, you should be able to putt for an eagle if you can avoid a small lake on the right of the green with your downhill approach, before moving later on to the rollercoaster par-4 7th, with a big puzzle-shaped bunker across the fairway halfway, and another smaller one, in front of the undulating green. Then, after the par-3 8th hole, with the green on a small mound with a big bunker in front, you will face one of my favorite holes, the scenic par-4 9th, with a small lake on the left, not far from the tee box, a downhill tee shot landing near another elongated lake on the right, and a steeply-uphill approach to the green with a nice clubhouse behind the grandstands. The back 9 starts with the par-5 10th hole, with a nice panoramic view and a downhill tee shot along an elongated lake on the right, and a very long second shot to try to reach the slightly-elevated green, with a big bunker in front (on the left), and is followed by the pretty par-3 11th, with a long tee shot over an elongated lake. The par-4 12th hole is downhill all the way with a blind tee shot and a tough approach shot over a small lake/creek toward the green, surrounded by three bunkers, unlike the par-4 13th, with a big downhill tee shot over an elongated lake, but with an uphill approach to the green, guarded by two small bunkers in front, on the left. From then on, you will face some very challenging holes, all the way to the 18th green, with some tough decisions to make... On the downhill par-4 14th hole, you will have to be very careful with your tee shot to avoid a big elongated lake on the left of the green, with plenty of bunkers on the right, whereas on the par-3 15th, your tee shot will have to fly over an elongated lake and land beyond two big bunkers in front, and to the left, of the sloped green. Two risk/reward holes follow : the downhill dogleg par-4 16th is quite short (around 320 yards) and has trees hiding the view of the lake on the left and lots of bunkers in the right corner, making the fairway quite narrow, but the slightly-uphill par-4 17th hole will give you even more headaches trying to figure out where you should hit your tee shot with a fairway split diagonally by a small creek, surrounded by plenty of flowers and bushes, and running past the green. You will complete your round with the pretty left dogleg par-5 18th hole, quite long (more than 630 yards) with a steeply-downhill tee shot landing near two big bunkers halfway, making the fairway quite narrow, and with more bunkers on both sides as you get close to the elevated green. This Kuala Lumpur West course is not only nice to look at, it is also quite tough with plenty of water to deal with and a lot of bunkers scattered all along that will keep you on your toes all the way to the 18th green, thanks to the CGX team !
