With the gorgeous snow-capped Swiss Alps mountains “staring” at you, and plenty of narrow, undulating and tree-lined fairways, this par 70 has quite a few challenging holes and you better hit nice tee shots to avoid getting into trouble ! The first two holes are a good indication on what you will face : the par-5 1st is straight and downhill all the way to the green with a narrow tree-lined fairway, and so is the shorter par-4 2nd. On the par-3 3rd hole, you will need to hit a tee shot over a small dead-end road to reach its small green, unlike on the right dogleg par-4 4th, downhill all the way to the green with nice flowers behind it. The right dogleg par-4 5th hole is quite short (about 275 yards) but, with two bunkers in front of the green and tall trees around, it is quite risky (and tough) trying to reach it. The next two holes are quite short too : the par-4 6th is straight and only about 335 yard-long and slightly downhill with a narrow tree-lined fairway, whereas the par-4 7th hole, about 340 yard-long, is very pretty with a wide-open panoramic view from the tee box and a big wasteland in front of the downhill green on the right, with nice villas behind it. Then, after the par-3 8th hole, slightly uphill with nice houses behind on the left, you will finish the front 9 with the long (more than 630 yards) left dogleg par-5 9th, with another tree-lined fairway. On the back 9, after the par-4 10th hole, with its undulating fairway and a green, slightly to the right, and the par-3 11th, with deep rough halfway and its elevated green, I like the right dogleg par-4 12th hole, with a big shallow wasteland across the fairway, not far from the downhill green, and the straight downhill par-4 14th, with a heavily-undulating and narrow tree-lined fairway and a big elongated pond in front (and on the right) of the green, with a bunker on the left. Finally, after the par-5 15th hole, straight with another undulating and narrow fairway, and the par-3 16th with deep rough in front of the tee box, I like the left dogleg par-4 17th hole, quite nice with deep rough, again in front of the tee box, with a very narrow tree-lined fairway (especially in the middle) and a slightly-elevated green, and the straight and downhill par-4 18th, with a heavily-undulating fairway, a big lake, way to the right, and a green, with a tiny little creek, halfway around on the right, in front of the big clubhouse and all those big flags in front. Well-designed as usual by the CGX Team, Crans-sur-Sierre is very enjoyable to play and another treat for your eyes, thanks also to the great pano done by rlslay, and it will definitely join my collection of top European courses...
