With the nice Laurel Ridge pano (mountains and lakes) as a backdrop, this par 72 is quite tough with high weeds all along most of the fairways and some wide and elongated bunkers to deal with, not to mention a few more small ones in front of the greens.
The first few holes are relatively “easy”, starting with the right dogleg par-4 1st hole, with an approach shot over a wide lake to reach a wide green, followed by the right dogleg par-4 2nd, with an elongated bunker on the left and the lake on the right.
The left dogleg par-4 3rd hole has an enormous bunker in the corner and a green, slightly downhill and is quite nice, just like the straight par-3 4th, with a u-shaped bunker in front of the green with high weeds on both sides in front.
One of my favorite holes is the short par-5 5th (about 430 yards), very tough with its sharp turn to the left, high weeds in the left corner and a big and elongated bunker on the right all the way to the green, making the fairway quite narrow and the green, too far to reach on your second shot.
After the right dogleg par-4 6th hole, with an approach shot over a lake and the green, with a u-shaped bunker in front, you will reach the pretty par-5 7th, with a tee shot over a lake, an elongated bunker further to the right, and another small lake on the left side all the way to the green, with two big bunkers in front and in the back.
As for the right dogleg par-4 9th hole, it is nice too with its sloped fairway, elongated bunker on the left side and another big one in front of the elevated green.
The back 9 has some tough holes too, such as the long (more than 600 yards) par-5 12th, with a big and elongated bunker in the middle of the fairway, slightly downhill and quite narrow with plenty of high weeds on both sides and a green, slightly to the right, with a u-shaped bunker in front and nice yellow flowers behind.
Another beautiful hole is the par-4 13th, with an undulated and slanted fairway, quite narrow with high weeds on the left side all the way to the green and deep rough on the right, followed by the par-3 14th hole, with a narrow green and a small bunker in front.
The par-5 15th hole is quite long (more than 610 yards) with another elongated bunker, slightly on the left of the fairway, slightly downhill again, with high weeds all along on both sides ending near the green, slightly to the right, whereas on the right dogleg par-4 16th, you will need to hit your tee shot over a small mound with high weeds midway through on the right side and a bunker behind.
Finally, after the par-3 17th hole, with a tee shot over a lake (but with the bridge, strangely too much to the left !) and a big bunker in front of the green, you will need some more powerful shots on the long par-5 (more than 630 yards) 18th hole, with high weeds again on both sides of the undulated and slanted fairway to have a last birdie shot.
With plenty of high weeds, deep rough and big bunkers all along, accuracy is the name of the game if you want to score well on this course, well designed by chipgill and quite challenging, especially on the back 9...
