A really nice course, tough, never got below par, but played fair and made you work for your birdies! Certainly a course you should have, and hopefully you'll score better than I did!

One of ron717’s best courses, at least visually, with a pretty mountainous panorama, tree-lined fairways, nice vegetation, and with quite a few tee shots over ponds and rivers, but not too difficult if you can manage to avoid the water hazards and/or wide bunkers near the few tricky greens. On this par 72, I prefer the nicer front 9, starting with the left dogleg opening par-4 hole, slightly downhill all the way, with a tee shot over a small winding river across in front of the tee box (with a pretty little wooden bridge on the left), and the picturesque par-3 3rd, with a tee shot over the river flowing all the way past the green, to the right. If the par-5 4th hole is straight, it is quite pretty with two shots over the river to reach the green, guarded by two big bunkers on the sides, but my favorite hole on the whole course, is the very scenic par-3 5th, with a tee shot flying above the elongated lake all the way to reach the “bean-shaped” island green ! Another nice hole is the par-4 6th, straight and slightly downhill all the way, with a tee shot over the river landing near a big bunker splitting the fairway across, midway, followed by the par-4 7th hole, with a big pond on the left of the green to watch for. If you like bunkers, you will love the pretty left dogleg par-5 8th hole, with a tee shot over a pond (in front) and downhill all the way with plenty of bunkers in the left corner and plenty more in front of the green. The back 9 is less difficult, with quite a few doglegs having wide fairways but still has some nice holes too, such as the left dogleg par-5 12th, with a huge puzzle-shaped bunker, splitting the fairway, halfway, and another big and elongated one on the left side ending near the green, and the scenic par-3 13th, with puzzle-shaped bunkers on both sides of the fairway, leading to the green. Last, but not least, the right dogleg par-5 18th hole is also pretty and challenging, with another big bunker, across the fairway midway, and a very tough second shot toward the green, with a big pond hallway around it (and a pretty covered bridge on the left to gaze at). Well designed by ron717, this Northern Hills Golf Club is fun to watch and play and if you can avoid all those bunkers on the back 9, you should finish with a decent score...

Great design and a lovely course - a traditional layout, as the blurb says, that invites attacking golf but defends well, particularly with some tricky greens and pins. Plays beautifully and is very pretty on the eye. Really enjoyed my round, this is another excellent creation from Ron - maybe not quite up there with his very best (eg, Beaver Creek) but a joy all the same. Cheers!
