Very interesting course along the (dark) ocean, and tougher than it looks despite its bare landscape, with few trees and flowers. This par 71 is not too hilly and its bunkers are not too deep, but they are strategically-placed with, often, a few trees in front, making some approach shots quite difficult. On the front 9, I like the right dogleg par-4 2nd hole, with its uphill tee shot and a green, surrounded by a few trees and the ocean around, and the right dogleg par-4 3rd, with a small hill on the right of the tee box and two lone trees on both sides of the green. The left dogleg par-4 4th, on another hand, has some nice gorse bushes and a few trees around the corner and near the green on the left, with... four golf carts parked to the right, behind the green. The left dogleg par-4 6th hole is quite pretty with a few trees on the left side of the fairway and the view of the lighthouse (far away behind the green), and is quite different from the par-3 7th hole, where light rough is the only thing you will see between the tee box and the green, with a few trees around. Then, after the dogleg par-5 8th hole, with the ocean on the right side, you will reach the scenic par-4 9th, quite picturesque, with a small lake on the left side of the tee box, two slightly uphill shots to the green (with a big sand path across in front), and a wooden clubhouse behind it, with a few cars parked nearby. The back 9 has some spectacular holes, starting with the very scenic par-3 10th and its peninsula green in the middle of the small lake, with three small bunkers around. If you are in a gambling mood, you will like the short (less than 320 yards), but straight, par-4 11th hole, with a wide bunker near the green and another small one right in front, just like you will admire the nice view as you reach the green of the right dogleg par-4 12th, with the ocean and an island green on the right side ! After the long and left dogleg par-5 13th hole, quite bare with a few trees on both sides of the fairway, the par-4 14th hole, slightly uphill, has more light rough between the tee box and near the green, with three bunkers in front and a few trees around. My favorite hole on this course is the short (less than 310 yards) par-4 15th hole, with its uphill blind tee shot leading to a gorgeous lengthy island green (with a few trees and bunkers around), linked to the sea by a nice small wooden bridge ! The dogleg par-4 17th hole is quite short too (less than 320 yards), but with a big pond on the left side, bordered by trees, you won't be able to reach the green... As for the par-4 18th hole, it is nice since it is similar to the 9th, with a few trees lined up in the middle of the fairway and the green on the other side of the sand path, near the clubhouse. With two gorgeous holes (10th, 15th) and some other nice ones, this course is quite challenging and could look even better with some more plantings. But, nevertheless, Bruce Ryder did a nice job with this links course... which is fun to play !
