With a nice forest as a backdrop, this par 71 is quite challenging with plenty of strategically-placed square and/or rectangular-shaped bunkers, not to mention a few water hazards. And don't be fooled by those wide fairways and greens, either ! Avoiding those deep bunkers won't be easy as you are bound to land in a few of them on your way to the 18th green... On the front 9, I like the short (less than 330 yards) and straight par-4 2nd hole, with 5 bunkers surrounding the green in front (and with a creek behind), the left dogleg par-5 4th, with a downhill tee shot landing on a slanted fairway and an uphill approach shot to the green, guarded by 5 bunkers in front and 2 more in the back. After the par-4 5th hole, with its 3 bunkers in the middle of the undulated fairway and its two slightly-uphill shots to reach the green, the right dogleg par-5 7th is quite nice, with a big lake on the right side and a lone tree and 3 bunkers to the right of the green. Then you will reach one of my favorite holes, the scenic and short (less than 330 yards) par-4 9th, with a small lake in front of the tee box and an imposing castle/clubhouse behind the downhill green. Coming back, the picturesque par-5 11th hole offers quite a challenge : even though it is pretty straight, 3 big bunkers in the middle of the fairway will "force" you to hit your tee shot to the right but, with a rollercoaster fairway, you will be faced with a blind second shot in the direction of the downhill green with 3 bunkers on each side ! After the steep uphill par-3 12th hole and the downhill left dogleg par-4 13th hole, you will face the par-5 14th, a little bit similar to the 11th hole, but slightly to the right with 4 bunkers right in front in the middle of the elevated fairway, and a tough second shot on the rollercoaster fairway with more bunkers to deal with as you get close to the green... Even though the par-3 15th hole is very long (more than 300 yards), it is not overly difficult despite its few bunkers around the green, unlike the long par-5 (more than 600 yards) 16th hole, with a lake on the left, an enormous rectangular bunker on the right and more bunkers near the elevated green, and where you will be lucky if you can putt for an birdie ! The last two holes are beautiful in their own ways : the par-3 17th hole has a steep downhill tee shot to the wide green with 2 bunkers, right in the middle, whereas the right dogleg par-4 18th has an undulated fairway and a second shot over a small lake to reach the green and its castle behind. Bobby Bolin designed a very interesting course where you better have your bucket and spade handy to get out of trouble to enjoy this well-designed landscape, quite original, and a definite keeper...
