This par 72, nicely designed by Bobby Bolin, will challenge you, with a few water hazards and plenty of undulating and elevated greens, surrounded by slopes and well-placed bunkers. On the front 9, my favorite holes are the nice par-3 2nd, downhill to the green with an elongated lake in front of it, the downhill and pretty par-3 4th, with four bunkers around the green, and the right dogleg par-4 6th, downhill all the way and with a flag, very close to a wide lake on the left. I also like the short left dogleg par-5 8th hole, with a tee shot landing downward a narrow fairway between a lake in the left corner and a big elongated bunker on the right (and an uphill approach over the water to reach the elevated green), and the par-4 9th, with a downhill tee shot and a steeply-uphill and blind second shot toward the undulating green, with a bunker all the way across in front. Another scenic hole awaits you as you start the back 9, with the steeply-downhill par-3 10th, and its small green, with two elongated bunkers in front, before moving on to the short par-4 11th hole, with a big bunker in front of the elevated green, quite risky if you want to try to reach it with your driver... Then, after the right dogleg par-5 12th hole, with a downhill tee shot and a long and blind (and uphill) second shot toward the elevated green (with a bunker on both sides of the flag), you will face two par-4 left doglegs, with a tee shot over a small serpentine creek on the 14th, before heading for the par-5 15th hole, with an undulating fairway, split across halfway by a winding creek, and another elevated green, surrounded by four bunkers. The par-3 16th hole, on another hand, is downhill with a big green but its flag is pretty close to a lake on the right, unlike the right dogleg par-4 18th, with its “Augusta look”, and its very tough and steeply-uphill approach to the green, hard to evaluate distance-wise. But, overall, don't be fooled by the nice plantings, especially around the lakes, as this Bolinwood Commonwealth course can easily get you in big trouble if you don't hit good approaches to the greens and/or cannot read all those tricky putts, but that's what golf is all about, isn'it ?
