Another nice Wild Turkey Design, where your legs will be aching after completing this par 72 course, where there is not a single flat hole. With plenty of trees, some of them strategically-placed, a few water hazards, and many blind shots on this rollercoaster course, not to mention some tricky greens with some big slopes and/or undulations, your final score might reflect the profile of this course... You will start with the gorgeous par-4 1st hole, with its steep rollercoaster fairway, all the way downhill to the green with four big bunkers along and a small lake on the right. After an uphill and left dogleg 2nd hole, be careful on the par-3 3rd, where you better hit your uphill tee shot beyond the flag to avoid the big slope below The left dogleg par-4 5th hole, with a big pond on the left and a big bunker on the right right in the middle, making the fairway quite narrow, can be a little tricky, just like the nice and short downhill par-4 8th (less than 300 yards), with trees in the middle of the fairway hiding the green below, reachable with a precise tee shot. Another beautiful, and tough, hole is the par-5 9th, with a steep uphill tee shot, a slanted fairway, and a blind second shot towards the green way down, with a nice house above on the left side, overlooking a big lake. On the back 9, I like the left dogleg par-4 10th hole, with an uphill tee shot, a heavily-slanted fairway and a small slope downhill to the green, and the short left dogleg par-4 11th where, with trees in the left corner hiding the green, you won't be able to reach the green (unlike on the 8th hole). Then, after a few more up-and-down holes, some steeper than others (par-4 16th and 17th), you will reach the scary and gorgeous right dogleg par-5 18th hole : scary with its steep downhill blind tee shot towards... an island fairway, with water all around, and gorgeous with residential buildings on high rocky hilltops. With its very hilly landscape, tough second/approach shots, The Blackwood Forest is a testing course and, even though I did not get vertigo as some other players did, I really enjoyed my round, thanks to Wild Turkey Design !

A juwel in almost every respect! Which (new?) superman made this "eyecandy",as Tee Off Towersey said in his comment?

I loved the total overall design of this course. However I had a severe case of vertigo after the 4th. hole. That was probably the 1st time in years I had the greens set on normal. Hell I'm 71 yrs old. I couldn't keep the ball on the green with a very dry setting and my legs were shot keeping up with the ball on its way to God only knew where. The only Golf carts I know that could have used those cart paths up & down would have had to been powered by a Porsche Turbo Carerra. The layout was magnificent IMHO sort of reminded me of a few J Hold designs.

What can anyone say except one hell of a great course! Super pano distance was perfect and was a great course to play. Very hard to believe that this is your 2nd course unless you are messing with us lol

What can I say but an exceptional fantasy course. Certainly gets you thinking ahead to the next shot. Eye candy is great together with a good choice of textures. Blends well with the pano. Well done.

The way we are playing here you might want to throw the clubs in the lake. If you throw the clubs in the lake, you might miss the lake.
No course in the works: retired. |
