A very enjoyable course from M.G.A Hover, with beautiful lakes and small islands, nice plantings, “cute” fences around the tee boxes, and with some undulating and/or slanted fairways with a few elongated bunkers and some unusual... high bounces of the ball as it reaches the greens !
The first three holes have fairways hugging a big lake on the left : the par-4 1st is a left dogleg with a slanted fairway, whereas the par-4 2nd bends less to the left, unlike the par-3 3rd hole, where you will need to hit a very long tee shot over the lake to reach its wide and sloped green.
One of my favorite holes is the straight, but gorgeous, par-4 4th, with a blind tee shot in the direction of a big island fairway (with some tiny islands around) and an approach shot, slightly uphill to the green on the other bank of the lake !
The par-5 5th hole is a left dogleg with trees along the lake on the left, an elevated road on the far right, with a couple of big bunkers, halfway, and a long second shot slightly downhill to the wide green, and is followed by the scenic par-3 6th, with a... broken barrier (!) on the left of the tee box, and an island, with a wide green, surrounded by a couple of bunkers and deep rough.
Then, after the straight par-4 7th hole, along the lake on the left, you will reach the gorgeous and short (about 310 yards) right dogleg par-4 8th, where you will have to decide if it is worth trying to reach the small elongated island and its undulating green, slightly to the right (and surrounded by deep rough and a couple of bunkers), with a blind and downhill tee shot (“doable” with a little luck), or play it safe...
Finally, after staring at another broken barrier (on the left of the tee box) on the left dogleg par-5 9th hole, you will have to hit a long second shot to try to reach the green, with a deep bunker in front on the right, to get a chance for an eagle opportunity.
The back 9 starts with the left dogleg par-4 10th hole, with a slightly-uphill tee shot and a slightly-downhill approach to the green (with the lake behind), and is followed by the short (about 350 yards) and very picturesque left dogleg par-4 11th, with a path crossing the fairway diagonally halfway, a big elongated bunker in the right corner, and a tough approach shot to a small island green, surrounded by three nice trees !
After the par-4 12th hole, with an elongated bunker on the left, not far from the lake, and a heavily-slanted fairway, leaving you with a blind approach shot to the green, you will face the left dogleg par-5 13th, with the lake (again) on the left and a downhill tee shot over another path crossing the fairway diagonally, and a long approach to the slightly-uphill green, with a big bunker in front.
Another beautiful hole is the right dogleg par-4 15th, with a blind and downhill tee shot and an island green (with another island on the left) set on a small mound.
You will then tee off from the other island, on the left dogleg par-4 16th hole, over some deep rough and water in order to reach the heavily-slanted fairway and hit a blind approach to the green (with the lake on the left), before heading for the nice par-3 17th and its island green, surrounded by a few trees.
The long (around 600 yards) par-5 18th hole (with another broken barrier on the left of the tee box) will challenge you, one last time, with a tree-lined wide and undulating fairway with scattered elongated bunkers on the left, and an elevated green, slightly to the right, and hard to reach on your second shot.
With a beautiful scenery and plenty of water hazards, this par 72 will keep you on your (wet ?) toes, if you are not careful, and is definitely one of M.G.A. Hover's best courses !
