Another challenging St Andrews links course, next to a road and the ocean (looking so-so), with bare surroundings but, with plenty of slightly-elevated (and often blind) tee shots and some heavily-undulated (and/or a few sloped) fairways, you will have a hard time seeing the scattered and well-placed pot bunkers, not to mention some undulating greens, partially hidden by a few tiny mounds in front. The left dogleg par-4 opening hole is a perfect example, just like the par-5 3rd, with an undulating fairway (with a few pot bunkers in the middle) next to some small rocky mounds (on the left) and along a small road (on the far right, next to the ocean), and a long second shot to the slightly-elevated green. On the short (around 500 yards) left dogleg par-5 6th hole, after hitting your tee shot over a path crossing the undulating fairway, halfway, you should be able to putt for an eagle, if you can avoid the few pot bunkers around the green, before facing the par-4 7th, with an undulating fairway between two winding paths and two small houses on both sides, halfway, and a couple of tiny mounds in front of the green. Then, you will reach one of my favorite holes, the left dogleg par-4 8th, with a blind and slightly-uphill tee shot along the sandy coastline on the left, and another uphill approach to the green, with a couple of tiny mounds in front, before moving on to the par-3 9th, with a nice panoramic view as you reach the green next to the road (with a few cars) on the left... On the back 9, after the par-4 10th hole, similar to the 9th, you will have another eagle opportunity on the short (about 500 yards) dogleg par-5 11th hole, uphill all the way, with rocky mounds on the left (and a lone tree on the right, almost halfway), if you can avoid two pot bunkers in front of the green, on the left. Similarly, the slightly longer (around 520 yard)s left dogleg par-5 12th hole, uphill all the way, should offer you another chance at an eagle, after a blind tee shot over some gorse bushes, and a long second shot to the green, with nice views of the road and the ocean behind. My next favorite hole is the par-4 15th, with a blind tee shot over a small mound in front (on the right) landing onto a narrow, winding and undulating fairway (with more small mounds all along on the right), and a green, slightly to the right. Finally, after the left dogleg par-4 16th hole, with a blind and slightly-uphill tee shot along some rocky mounds on the left, and the par-3 17th, with its undulating green, surrounded by a few pot bunkers, you will move on to the par-4 18th hole, slightly-uphill all the way, with an undulating and sloped fairway (next to the road and the ocean on the left), before seeing the clubhouse behind the green and a hotel on the far right. If this St Andrews GL Jubilee course is well designed by TeeOffTowersey (as usual), it is not as tough as the more famous Old one, and you might even... jubilate after completing your round if you were able to avoid using your bucket and spade !

Excellent design, it certainly felt like I was at St. Andrews. Is the course harder than the Old? I didn't think so.. but of the four sets of 9 across both courses, I found the back 9 here probably the hardest, particularly as I was playing into the wind all the way. I enjoyed it very much and will look to ramp up the difficulty next time (played breezy n dry today). My fave hole was the delightfully tricky par 4 15th. A great design as always and a pleasure to play, cheers!

Love this beautiful course carved out of a mostly barren landscape. The fairways and greens are marvelous. I'm going to try the course with severe conditions to see how I handle it. Thank you.

Great job Lawrence, enjoyed my round. I spent quite a lot of time in those bunkers, so next time I will borrow my grandson's bucket and spade

Thanks guys for the heads up. I always try to make the courses as real as is possible given the constraints of the CA.

The way we are playing here you might want to throw the clubs in the lake. If you throw the clubs in the lake, you might miss the lake.
No course in the works: retired. |

Tee Off--You design great courses and you don't play half bad either---lol. I have never been a fan of links courses as to me they all look alike. You did a great job on this one---it plays very well. Keep it up, Lawrence---MDM3673
