Another gorgeous tropical course from rlslay, with this par 72 set around the Emerald Lakes, with breathtaking views of the small mountains, wide (and sometimes) undulating fairways, beautiful plantings and some tricky greens, with palm trees and bunkers in front. Even though this course is superb from the 1st tee to the 18th green, my favorite holes on the front 9 are the par-4 1st, slightly uphill, with a slanted fairway hugging a wide lake on the left and a green, slightly to the left, the gorgeous (and scary !) left dogleg par-4 2nd hole, with a tee shot over part of a wide lake, and the scenic right dogleg par-5 3rd, with the mountains facing the tee box, a wide lake on the far right, and a very long second shot over a deep ditch filled with a little pond ! The next four holes are straight : the par-4 4th is downhill all the way with an undulating fairway (and 4 big bunkers on both sides) and a lake behind the green, the par-5 5th hole is quite long (more than 600 yards), with another undulating fairway and a lone tall palm tree with a bunker around, in front near the green, and the par-4 6th needs a slightly-downhill tee shot and a precise approach to the green to avoid the 3 palm trees in front of the green, on the left, unlike the par-4 7th hole, where the green is close to a big lake behind. Two other favorite holes of mine are the par-3 8th, with a tee shot over the lake with beautiful vegetation on the right side of the green (and a great panoramic view of the wide lake on the left and the mountains further behind), and the straight par-4 9th hole, with a tee shot over the lake and a slightly-uphill approach to the green. On the back 9, I like the left dogleg par-4 10th hole, with an elongated bunker in the right corner (near the lake), trees on the left of the fairway and a downhill approach to the green, very close to the lake, and the right dogleg par-4 13th, with a slightly-uphill tee shot and a tough second shot over a narrow, and deep rocky ditch with a couple of palm trees framing the green in front. Then, after the par-3 14th hole, with a small green, guarded by two palm trees with bunkers around, the last four holes are beautiful : the par-4 15th is a left dogleg, with an elongated lake on the right halfway turning into a little creek across the fairway and... a little pond on the left (not far from the green, with more palm trees and bunkers in front), and the par-4 16th hole is a right dogleg, with an uphill tee shot and a small pond way below (a little further to the right), and another tough approach to the green, with palm trees in the way. The straight par-4 17th hole has a great panoramic view from the tee box, with a downhill tee shot, trees on the left of the fairway halfway, and a wide lake on the opposite side, and a slightly-uphill green, and the right dogleg par-5 18th is very picturesque with a slightly-uphill tee shot over the wide lake, a lone palm tree with a bunker around in the middle of the slanted fairway, and a crescent-shaped lake, a little bit further to the right, all the way to the green. With its spectacular views, water hazards and challenging approaches to the greens, not to mention the nice paths and vegetation, Emerald Lakes is another... gem from rlslay who struck gold, one more time !
