Not surprisingly, when two of the top designers get together, you know you gonna end up with a top course and that is the case with Hazeltine. With its beautiful landscape, plantings and grandstands (love that red color, for a change !), this par-72 plays very smoothly, especially with its wide fairways. The front 9 is not overly difficult, with slightly uphill tee shots on the 1st and 3rd holes, until you reach the long par-5 6th hole with its nice view of the lake as you approach the green. But the most beautiful hole on this course is, without a doubt, the dogleg to the right par-4 7th with the lake on the front right of the tee box, a creek on the left midway through the fairway and a gorgeous green with the flag on the edge of the lake : simply superb ! The par-3 8th hole is not difficult but is "cute" with its two little ponds right and left. As for the par-4 9th hole, it has a gorgeous approach toward the green, surrounded by grandstands and beautiful flags on top. The back 9 starts nicely with the dogleg to the left par-4 10th hole and its elevated green, close to the lake, and continues with the long (more than 250 yards) par-3 13th hole with a bunker guarding the green and a small pond to the left with a nice fountain in the middle. The next 3 holes are doglegs with the par-5 16th hole, being the toughest where, with a little luck, you might be able to reach the green on the right on your second shot, providing you avoid the big pond in front and the three bunkers on the right ! After the classic-looking par-3 17th hole with water in front, you will enjoy the view as you reach the green of the par-4 18th hole, which is parallel to the 9th, albeit slightly more downhill. Without a doubt, this course is a definite keeper, thanks to the combined talent of MSR Golf and Tee Off Golf !
