What more can you say about rslay’s courses that you haven’t said already ? In a (designing) world of his own, this par 72 is another beauty, an update of his 2008 Cebu City course, filled (once again !) with gorgeous plantings, plenty of water hazards, slight elevation changes, and beautiful panoramic views near the ocean. And don’t be fooled by its look : despite what is mentioned in the general info, this Pacific Bay course is not that easy. After a very pretty start with the two par-4 1st and 2nd holes, both with elongated lakes, to the left on the 1st, and to the right on the latter, you will be facing a tough challenge on the par-5 3rd hole, with a lake splitting the fairway across midway, forcing you to land your tee shot short of it, and leaving you with a delicate approach toward the green, with that same lake ending on the left, in front... Then, after the scenic downhill par-3 4th hole, you will move on to the right dogleg par-4 5th where, after an uphill tee shot, you will need to hit a downhill approach to reach the green. If the up-and-down par-5 8th hole is nice, with its blind second shot downward to the green, slightly to the right, my favorite hole is the very pretty and tough par-4 9th, where you will need to hit your tee shot over an elongated lake to land onto a small peninsula fairway, midway, before firing a blind and uphill approach over a waste area, filled with flowers, in the direction of the green. Coming back, you will be faced with a head-scratching decision on the beautiful par-5 12th hole, as you will see palm trees surrounding a couple of elongated lakes, set all across the middle of the fairway : but, no matter if you hit your tee shot left or right, a tough (and blind) second shot over the water and those trees awaits you if you want to reach the green... Then, after the right dogleg par-4 14th hole, and its blind approach to the green, set above water in front (and to the left), you will move on to another gorgeous hole, the par-5 15th, with a big elongated waste area, filled with flowers and a couple of palm trees to the right, leaving you with no choice but to hit your tee shot toward the fairway (set on a hilltop on the left), before hitting a long second shot downward to the green, with another waste area on the left and a small elongated lake to the right ... The pretty par-3 16th hole, with its elevated green set above a few tennis courts further behind, will give you a welcome break, before finishing later on with the gorgeous, but quite challenging, right dogleg par-4 18th, where you will have to hit a perfect tee shot over a big elongated lake to land onto a small island fairway in the middle, and follow with another perfect one to reach the small... island green ! Needless to say, for those of you who have never played one of rlslay’s courses, this Pacific Bay Golf Club is a must and it will give you a very good idea of what to expect from one of the best designers around.

Another really good 'realistic' fantasy course. For a challenge, play in breezy conditions (18 is REALLY fun then).
