Well, as its name indicates, Murcar Links is quite different from the Loch Lomond course, where I was playing just a few hours ago... Deep bunkers, high rough, big mounds, blind shots, undulated and/or sloped fairways along the seashore : welcome to Murcar ! While the course plays very nicely, I had, unfortunately, a few displaying bugs, ranging from seeing a white line above the horizon, from time to time, to that same horizon moving up and down (on the 14th hole). Bugs aside, I like the back 9 better, more scenic than the front 9. The first two holes are pretty straight until you reach the par-4 3rd, slightly curved to the left with an uphill tee shot and a sloped fairway. By the way, you will also see your first high stick marker in the middle of the fairway, similar to those used to indicate the sides of snow-covered roads... !). My favorite hole is the gorgeous dogleg to the left par-4 6th, next to the sea, with its nice yellow flowers, big mounds and... high rough ! If the par-4 7th hole has a nice little serpentine creek near the tee, and the par-4 8th, a sloped fairway similar to the 7th, the nice par-4 9th hole will offer you a potential eagle opportunity if you can reach the green from the tee... providing that your ball bounces off the high mounds. Nice yellow flowers will "greet" you as you tee off from the par-4 10th hole on your way to the nice overview around the green. The uphill par-4 11th hole, with its sloped fairway, will give you a chance to see... trees behind the green, whereas on the par-3 12th, you will see a nice pond behind the green ! The par-4 13th hole, slightly downhill, is very pretty with its fence on the right side of the fairway all along, just like the par-5 14th. While the par-3 16th hole is easy, its serpentine creek makes it pleasant to look at. As for the par-4 18th hole, I like its view of the grandstands, clubhouse and... parking lot with those nice cars ! With quite a few challenging holes, this par-71 could rank as a top notch course with a little smoothening around the edges of the horizon and the sand on the beach but, nonetheless, it is still a definite keeper and a very nice Scottish links course, thanks to TeeOffTowersey !
