Take Rlslay’s beautiful snow-capped mountain panorama and add Cello’s wild imagination and you end up with this very, very, hilly fantasy course, visually spectacular and quite challenging, as you would expect, with a lot of blind (and scary !) downhill shots (on the front 9) and (mostly) uphill on the way back. This par 72 starts with the nice par-4 1st hole, with a downhill tee shot landing in front of a big bunker across the slope of the steeply-uphill fairway and over which you will have to hit your blind approach to reach the green, way... downhill, and continues with the par-3 2nd, with its hidden green, far below the tee box, with a few big rocks further behind. You will then face the straight par-5 3rd hole, quite unusual with its tee box, surrounded halfway by high rocky hills, its tee shot over an elongated pond (right in front) and its “multi-tiered” fairway, making it quite tricky to choose the right clubs to start with... and to reach the green, set on a small rocky plateau. The right dogleg par-4 4th hole is quite breathtaking, with its downhill tee shot over a small valley, filled with trees, landing onto a very narrow fairway (along a small rocky hill on the left) and its slightly-uphill approach over a few rocks to reach the green. The steeply-downhill par-3 5th hole is similar to the 2nd, but very tricky with its heavily-undulating green, and is followed by the gorgeous right dogleg par-5 6th hole, with another “hangtime” downhill tee shot landing onto a narrow and slanted fairway (with an elongated lake, midway on the right), and another scary and blind long downhill approach to reach the green, set at the bottom of a big cliff, with a pretty view of the valley further below. Two nice surprises await you on the picturesque par-4 7th hole and the par-3 8th, as you will see the downhill elongated island green from the tee boxes, but you will have to make sure to avoid landing in the river all along the undulating fairway on the left (on the 7th) and flowing also around the greens. As for the superb left dogleg par-5 9th hole, you can forget about getting an eagle : after hitting a steeply-downhill tee shot landing near a shallow rocky area (midway on the right), you won’t be able to reach that elongated island green again on your second shot, with another multi-tiered fairway going down and a big rock, right in front of the river... running down in front of the green ! After congratulating yourself for “surviving” on the front 9, you will have a big sigh of relief, seeing the slightly-uphill left dogleg par-4 10th hole, but beware of its green, surrounded by two bunkers (front and back), deep rough on the left and a small rock on the right... If the par-3 11th hole is gorgeous with its country-like panorama (nice fence up front, and the mountains facing the tee box), you will need a long and blind uphill shot to reach the green, guarded by a small pot bunker in front, making the left dogleg par-5 12th, uphill all the way, look easier, even though reaching its green is not with its narrow fairway set on a high rocky plateau. Then, after the right dogleg par-4 13th hole and its uphill fairway, split twice by some rock formations across, you will face the very pretty par-3 14th, with its narrow fairway between high hills and its green halfway surrounded by another bill hill, before moving on to the right dogleg par-5 15th hole, with its very narrow fairway, a few small rocks in the corner midway and a very long (and tricky) second shot over an elongated lake if you want to reach the elevated island green. The left dogleg par-4 16th hole is no pushover either, with a steeply-uphill tee shot landing near some rocks in the middle of the slanted fairway and a blind second shot through trees in the corner upward to the... downhill green, set on a high rocky plateau. On the pretty downhill par-3 17th hole, if “a river runs through it” (in front of the green), you won’t see Robert Redford but you will, instead, gaze at its beautiful panoramic view, before heading for the very challenging par-5 18th, with a rocky “wall” across the uphill fairway, midway (making your club selection quite tricky), and a long and blind approach downward toward the green, with a small clubhouse behind. Believe or not, I had played 5 Cello courses before and... kept only one, as they were unplayable at some point, despite being visually nice ! But I don't regret trying out this one as it is superb, and if you can... hang in there, you will enjoy this Hangtime Hills !
