If this course has an unusual name, it has also an unusual layout, quite pretty and mostly flat (give or take a couple of holes) but very challenging, with plenty of wide waste areas (all filled with small shrubs) to deal with, and a river winding its way throughout this par 72, "forcing" you to hit a lot of very precise shots if you want to finish with a decent scorecard. The front 9 has plenty of scenic and tough holes, starting with the right dogleg par-4 1st, with a serpentine river (lined up with sand) over which you will have to hit your two shots to reach the green, and the straight par-4 4th hole, with the river crossing the fairway midway, and a wide waste area, in front and to the right of the green, with a gentle slope to be aware of. The straight par-4 5th is another challenging hole, with the fairway hugging the winding river on the left (and more shrubs on the right), and a green, set in the middle of a sandy area, on the edge of the river, just like the tough par-3 6th hole, with the serpentine river on the left and a big bush right in front of the undulating green, set next to the river. More waste areas await on you on the left dogleg par-4 7th hole, with a tee shot over a wide one (on the left) and a smaller one (on the right), and a small and slightly-elevated green, with two trees on the left and a row of small bushes behind it (on the right), unlike on the par-3 8th, slightly-uphill with two elongated bunkers framing the green, and two lone trees behind it, and a row of bushes winding its way on the left and behind, forming a small and pretty hedge. You will finish the front 9 with a left dogleg par-5, along that small hedge (on the left), and with a narrow fairway, with bunkers (in the corner) and more waste areas (on the right), before hitting a tough approach over the meandering river to reach the green. The back 9 is not to be overlooked either, with the short, gorgeous but very tough right dogleg par-4 10th hole, with a fairway very narrow, with trees lined up all along on the left, and a serpentine river (along with a wide and elongated waste area beyond) and over which you will have to hit your tee shot. Then, after the straight par-4 13th hole, where you will need to hit a blind tee shot to land your ball onto a tiny fairway, hugging another huge waste area (on the left) and along trees (midway on the right), you will move on to the picturesque par-3 14th hole, with a tee shot over the winding river (with two iron bridges, left and right) and a green, beyond the river with two lone trees behind it before facing another scenic par-3, the 16th hole, slightly-uphill with a blind tee shot flying above more waste areas. The last two holes will again test your accuracy, on the short right dogleg par-5 17th, with a tee shot landing beyond a wide waste area (on the right) and trees (on the left), and short of the river winding its way across the fairway and past the green (on the right), and over which you will have to hit a very difficult approach to hope for one last eagle opportunity, before walking over to the right dogleg par-4 18th hole, slightly-uphill with a narrow fairway, lined up with trees on the left and three tall trees, straight in the middle of the fairway (near the edge of a wide waste area, on the right), making your tee shot even more crucial if you want to have a clear shot of the green on your approach... With this Bogue Chitto course, patience and accuracy are the name of the game ; if you can manage to avoid all those wide sandy waste areas, and not end up among those big trees or in... the river, then you will have fun playing this pretty par 72, nicely designed by Hunting Leopard !
