I thought I had played all of Bobby Bolin’s Bolinwood courses (8, if you include two updated ones), but I realized I had forgotten that one... With a big lake coming into play on quite a few holes, and plenty of strategically-placed bunkers, not to mention some greens with undulating slopes, this par 72 will offer you another challenging experience, especially on the back 9, with more elevation changes on the “menu” ! After a tough left dogleg par-4 1st hole, with a big tee shot over a wide lake landing between two bunkers on its edge (on the left of the fairway) and an elongated one (on the right), you will also have to be careful on the nice par-3 3rd, by making sure that your tee shot will fly over an elongated lake on your way to reaching the small green, framed by two bunkers. The left dogleg par-5 5th is another challenging hole, with a blind and downhill tee shot followed by a long second shot over an elongated lake (with a few trees on the left edge, partially hiding it), and a green, guarded by a big bunker in front, just like the right dogleg par-5 8th, quite tough with a tee shot over a couple of trees in the middle of the fairway, and an approach over the elongated lake again to reach the green. As for the short (around 320 yards) and straight par-4 9th, you might think twice if you want to reach its elevated green from the tee box, with plenty of deep rough and a few shrubs in front of it... Coming back, you will face my favorite hole, the gorgeous and very scenic left dogleg par-4 11th, quite short but, with a peninsula green, set on the other bank of a very wide lake, reaching it is close to impossible from the tee box ! On the right dogleg par-5 12th hole, with trees all along the fairway (on the left) and bunkers, scattered left and right, you will have to hit a very long second shot toward the slightly-elevated green, but don’t be surprised if you can’t reach it, with trees in the line of sight and some deep rough and a big bunker in front. The par-3 13th hole is not a piece of cake either, with a lake on the right of the slightly-elevated and sloped green (with a big bunker to the left), and is followed by the par-4 14th, with a steeply-uphill tee shot and a blind and steeply-downhill second shot toward the green, slightly to the right and with an elongated bunker in front. Then, after the right dogleg par-4 15th hole, uphill all the way, with a tee shot over a few trees on a small hilltop, and a slanted green, next to the lake (on the right), and the left dogleg par-4 16th, with the lake behind the undulating green (hidden by a small mound with a few trees in front), you will hold your breath on the par-3 17th, watching your tee shot fly over a wide lake and hopefully landing onto the slanted green, with its flag, on the edge of the water. You will complete your round with the pretty right dogleg par-5 18th hole, with a blind and downhill tee shot landing onto a narrow fairway (with bunkers, left and right), and a wide lake, further midway (on the left) and an elevated green, hard to reach on your second shot, which will give you enough time to admire the beautiful flowerbed on a slope, not too far from it ! With some very tough par-5 holes and some tricky par-3s, this nice Bolinwood Lake Course 2011 will keep you on your toes all the way until the 18th green but, unfortunately, some grainy areas beyond the plot and, on the 5th hole, a "dwarf" tree, standing in front of the lake (a minor detail) along with a default view on your second shot (going right while the flag is to the left !), leave me with some mixed feelings, as I preferred some of Bobby Bolin's other Bolinwood courses...
