Great concept course, well-conceived and beautifully done. The setting definitely rings of coastal Australia (despite Uluru's necessary relocation) and it could be from any part of the country really - has all the right sights and sounds and the hole attribution is brilliant. Love the layout, it plays superbly and is stubbie-loads of frothy fun. A wonderful and unique design, cheers!

Canberra, Darwin, Alice Springs, Perth, Brisbane, Sydney, etc... No, this is not a geography guizz but a few of the names of the holes that you will see and play on this gorgeous fantasy course, well-designed by Neil Munro and great fun to play ! There are fantasy courses that look real and, then, there are fantasy courses that take your imagination away, such as this par 72, set near the ocean. The first hole is a perfect example of whether or not you will enjoy this course : seeing the Australian flag, right in the middle of the... fairway (!), is very unusual (to say the least) but, then again, why not ? It''s the first time that I saw one and, probably, the last time, but I loved the idea ! Similarly, having a par-3 2nd hole with a tee shot over the ocean to reach an island green where there is a... pond above, is very scenic. From that point on, I thoroughly enjoyed this course, taking time to watch the gorgeous scenery which includes, of course, the Ayers Rock on the very long par-5 6th hole, just like all the other par-5 (the 14th, with a very sharp left dogleg over the ocean, and the spectacular 16th hole, where the green is located on a tiny little island, parallel to the coastline). Needless to say, this course is unlike any other and you should hurry to download it : this is a... real gem, fantasy or not !
P.S. As you well know, The Ayers Rock is surrounded by arid land in reality, unlike on this course, but it looks nice anyway. As for the presence of the Australian flag, it has generated a lot of responses, judging from the number of comments below...

A fun challenge, Neil. Like stevehal, I'm also not a native (originally a Sassenach, you might recall), but I've been here so long now I Marcus Welby. Nice touch setting it up as a virtual tour of the country, but it might have been fun to have a hole resembling a real outback course, where there's hardly a blade of grass & if there is any, it certainly isn't green! I played a full round on one of these once - in 45C dry heat on New Year's Day (mid-summer in Oz). Fairways were the colour of your course picture & rock hard (probably solidified clay), so that the first bounce from a drive seemed to go almost as far again - great distance value off the tee! "Greens" were dirt, which had to be smoothed after use, like a bunker on a normal course. Of course, chipping was not a great idea, so Texas Wedge from within 100 yards or so on that surface. Probably quite akin to playing golf on the Moon...

Loved your blow by blow accounts BillyJean, Ocean textures always give that horrible unrealistic sound, but to use a pond texture on the ocean would have probably caused a lot of lag problems. Just one of these things we have to live with......

Nice course, I took a real beating. Showed a lot of muscle - not a lot of brains! First achievement: secured the triple double on the very first two holes. Thumbs up. And I just knew I was in for it with this one when I saw that damn third green. Far away, small, narrow, water short and long, well that one was just asking for it. As it was I was in a masochistic mood to begin with, playing on very dry and dry greens with strong winds all day, and I don't think in my many rounds I ever hit that third green really good at all, tough pin to the left there. No matter what I tried, either in the water or it just wouldn't hold. And did I mention the deep doodoo short right? Goodness what a tough hole. By the way, one problem with this course is on some holes if you hit the water it sounds like the ball's gone in a bunker, it's not making the exciting plonk sound but the very ordinary sandy pop sound instead. Didn't know if I heard it correctly the first time so I went ahead and fired at the water a couple more times on every hole, just to make sure right. So anyway I was very miserable, until on one cloudy evening the wind was kind enough to help me on the horseshoe par five 14th. I was in the fairway and desperate enough to try anything by that time, so I went for the green over the water with the 3 wood, trying to guess which sound it's gonna be this time. But not only did it make it all the way over, it came down like a rocket, it just stuck. And just a couple feet away from the flag too - how about that? I nailed the putt and my morale was back up there. And then two rounds later this happens: Par five 8th, there's a gale blowing at my tail. I think Fairway Feherty's saying something about fifty fifty but we're going for it 100% with that wind pal. The flag's at the back, so the plan is to hit it a bit short and let the wind take it to the front so it can run up all the way over, and in case something goes wrong who knows, maybe it somehow ends up middle of the green (who am I kidding). So I hit the blind shot over the dune, a fade with the 7 wood, of all clubs, yes the SEVEN wood, and yes it did go in, just barely. Boom baby, my first ever Albatross! Could hardly believe it, really lucky to run into one there. Didn't help me get back under par for the round though, in fact I finished quite a few in double digits. But as you might have guessed by now I had a lot of fun anyway. Good course, looks nice and simple and plays real tough, those long approach shots are a real test of faith. Good job.

I think it hilarious that comments keep being made that Neil needs to get up to the level of pgax/cgx designers since neil was the 2010 pgax designer of the year!! He was given that award by Jimbo and other staff who understand course design. Seems ratings here are becoming a chance to punish designers instead of reward good designs. Also, if you don't get the flag being in the 1st fairway, you missed the entire point of the course. It is a tribute to Australia and it's many landmarks...look next to munroco's name below...that is a different flag...I for one am embarrassed to see my country's flag next to your name...thankfully most American's aren't like you

Well philip now we see your true colours, at least after some prompting you were man enough to come on here and try to explain yourself. Before we start I'll point out that I am not Australian so the "stupid Flag" as you call it isn't mine.
I thought I would try to do something a little different so I spent a lot of time (as did the people who made the textures and signs for the course) on this, but obviously its not to everyones taste. Lets start with the problem with tees. If you had bothered to read the course comments you would understand the reasoning behind this. Persumably you play from the ladies tees in real life? Only the Pro tees are usable on this course. The reason why I used the extra tees was to try to get the overheads showing properly. I hope your friend SthrnCelt takes note of this fact too. I realise the overhead on 14 isn't right (again see course comments) but I tried everyway I could think of to fix it
There will be seams on my courses, as there will be seams on every single course that has ever been made using the TCA (including courses made by your heroes PGAX).
As i explained to you in a PM (a point that seems to have fallen on deaf ears) I never suggested this course is worth five, what I said is that it is worth more than one (which incidently seems to be the score you award most courses). I also made the point that it is uninformed opinions from people like yourself that are discouraging people from spending many long hours making courses and uploading them here. This incidently is one of the reason PGAX don't upload here anymore.
Ratings. I had decided to turn off ratings on this course before I uploaded it. Then I thought I would try to find out just who these people are who hide behind the anonimity of giving courses one point but who weren't man enough to leave a comment stating why. Voila...up pops philipbrome2k6, and lets not be under any illusions here, you eventually had to leave some comments because you were called on it.
In conclusion, you think my courses are crap, then fine, that will save you downloading them in future (yeah right) which would also suit me just fine.

Well Jackn as a matter of fact i am a real golfer and my low ncga/usga hdcp index is .70 established at Dryden Park GC in Modesto California, I have been playing for 25 years. Whjat are you qualifications? I never dais anything about the tee boxes not being level i talked about teeing it up from the rough which i have never had to do at a real golf course and judging by your comment i can only assume you have never played the real game and if by chance you have you must be a high handicaper. I dont need the over head to guide me around these courses or any real course, in this game you can use the F key to look at where you want to hit the ball. Let me guess, your a true swing edger arnt you? I bet you play novice and use the green grid to putt also, is this true?

Well jackn as far as your flag goes its fine to show your national pride by putting it on the flag sticks,I dont have any problem with that at all but to stick it in the first fairway is stupid. and as far as the aboriginal comment i made, well take the time to read the designers comments as that is word for word from his own mouth, so you can be offended all you want. i get the impression that most of you have never seen a real golf course let alone played real golf. I wasnt trying to offend anybody and i didnt start this debate, it was started because the designer didnt like the rating i gave him because his friends have been given him false praise on his courses. He didnt even want to take the time to go back and make the correction on the 14 and 15 tees so we all have to tee it up in the rough or play the senior tees if we want to tee up from the tee box or go back and smooth out all the seams and wrinkles on this course. If a guy isnt going to take the time to view smiling goats tutorials on how to design a golf course and learn how to tweek his courses so the look good and play good then im not going to give him a 5 rating. And your false praises to him dont help him in any way for learning how to make a 5 star course. If you really think that his courses measure up to the other 5 star courses then you are seeing something that i dont see. Im just used to playing the pgax courses where you dont see the seams and when you play it , it gives you a real course feeling to it. Of course pgax and some of the other designers take the time to tweek there courses so i am a bit bias on this matter. So to you and all your aussie friends i apologize as i was not trying to affend you or your flag. i still think it is a stupid placement on the fairway.

A couple of comments here I would like to make if I may: Phillip Brome2k6 - it is my flag mate and my buddies & I loved seeing our colours on the first fairway. We had no problem with it at all - I take offense that you may of called our flag stupid. The comment about the aboriginal is an insult we do not appreciate. We loved the textures especially the greens. SthrnCelt - The overhead maps are a bonus, do you (if you play golf) have overhead maps at your track to guide you around. Think not. 600 yard holes mix the blend of this track, big country (which the theme is) big and long holes. Neil - this is the most important comment of all - you are right up there with the best designers on this site, your last design many rated as the best this year. We are still debatiing that down under over a good bottle of Australian red. Keep up the good work, please keep submitting your designs as us golfers (who have played the game world wide) really appreciate this and all of your courses. Rating - Up there with your best and because of the Aussie Flag - a big 10.

Ok Neil you wanted my comments well here they are sport. Your textures dont blend well at all, you have seams in the course that you didnt bother taking the time to smooth out. You have a wall of dirt along the first hole that totaly looks out of place although im sure you see them as hills. you have wrinkles in some of your water features that you didnt smooth out before you added water. I was wrong about the rating i gave you. I should have read your comments first then i could have givin you your 5 rating as it is a 5 rating if im an aboriginal bush man playing walkabout with a funnystick. But as a golf course it just doesnt measure up. I noticed that you turned off your ratings, i guess that is because your ego could not handle anything lower than a 5. Oh well, you wanted my comments there they are. Ps I lied, you course just sucks

I very much dislike the music tracks on courses. Reminds me of that scene in Caddy Shack where that crazy golf bag is jamming on Journey. I also dislike overhead maps that are cut off. You have at least one in here. Played on dry and the greens play well...not riduclously undualated but very tricky...I like that. I'm also not a fan of 600+ yard holes, but hey, that's me. Mostly this is a good course, but I'll rate a 2 based on the arcade atmosphere.

Well so far i have 6 votes, five 4 or 5's and a one by by PhilipBrome 2k6 (who incidently wasn't man enough to write a comment and say why). These are the sort of ingrates who are bringing this site down and making designers think twice about downloading courses. If course downloads wants to keep designers uploading here then they need to clear out the trash. I was going to turn comments off on this course, but I decided to leave them on and see if I could work out just who is downgrading them. True Blue obviously doesn't care so I'd suggest that until these parasites are removed from this site that designers desist from uploading courses here. I for one have had enough. If anyone wants my courses in future please PM me. Any one who has who has taken the time to comment on my courses (good or bad) will get a link to the new ones, otherwise they will only be avaiable on CGX site.
This course may not be worth a five but I'm damn sure it is better than a one.

If anyone attempts to play on anything other than pro tees, 14 and 16 will have you teeing off from the rough. As I said its an overhead problem and the extra tess were put in to try to rectify this, they weren't meant to be played from.
