A challenging course with big hills, lots of trees, elevation changes and a few water hazards and quite fun to play. On the front 9, I like the dogleg par-4 1st hole, with a nice panoramic view from the tee with plenty of trees on both sides of the fairway (with a small ravine on the right), a bunker on the right in front of the green and a small lake on the left, and the long par-5 2nd, with a very narrow tree-lined fairway, a downhill tee shot and an uphill green, with a big bunker in front on the left, and another one to the right. After the par-3 3rd hole, with a nice view of the valley behind and mountains further back, you will need to hit a steep downhill tee shot on the right dogleg par-4 4th to land short of a big pond on the right, and then hit an uphill approach shot to reach the green, at the foot of a small hill, with another small pond on the right. The right dogleg par-4 5th hole looks like the 4th... without the ponds, but with an elevated green and then, after the left dogleg par-4 6th, uphill all the way to the green, is followed by two nice holes : the short (less than 360 yards) par-4 7th, with a downhill tee shot where you need to land short of an elongated lake on the right of the green, and the straight par-4 8th hole, with a big hill all along the fairway on the left, and an uphill tee shot followed by a steep approach shot to the green with four bunkers around. As for the par-3 9th hole, it is quite scenic with a green set on a plateau with a gentle slope on the left of the fairway and a big slope on the right, with a nice panoramic view as you reach it. The back 9 has some interesting holes too, such as the right dogleg par-4 10th, with a steep downhill tee shot and a steep uphill approach shot (with a few bunkers left and right along the tree-lined fairway), and the sharp dogleg par-4 11th hole, with a big hill on the left side around the corner and two uphill shots to the green. The downhill par-3 12th hole is quite pretty with a clear downhill view of the green, set on a plateau (and with a big pond behind), and is followed by the short (less than 360 yards) par-4 13th hole, with a tee shot over a small pond, a big hill along the fairway on the right and two bunkers in front on the left of the elevated green. Then, after the straight par-3 14th hole, with the green on a plateau and two very high mounds behind, and the long (almost 600 yards) par-5 16th, slightly to the right, with a big hill all along the fairway on the right and two shots, slightly uphill all the way to the green, you will face the final two holes, quite challenging in their own ways... The short (about 320 yards) dogleg par-4 17th hole has a fairway starting halfway near the right corner, with trees hiding the green further behind and with a big pond on the right side, leaving you with a risky choice to go for the green from the tee, whereas the par-5 18th is beautiful with two narrow fairways, left and further to the right, separated by deep rough on the right and an elongated lake to the left, past the first fairway, ending not far from the slightly-elevated green ! With plenty of downhill and/or uphill shots and quite a few narrow fairways, this par 71 is not that easy but, with a little bit of thinking and patience, you should be able to finish with a decent score to fully enjoy this Hidden Ridge course, well designed by Danut Golf.
