Scenery-wise, the panorama on this course is not the most beautiful you will ever see with those orange/brownish small hills and a factory (?) next to the big LaCavulin logo on the other bank of the river. Fortunately, this par 72 plays smoothly, with wide greens, tall thin trees, a few well-placed bunkers and a couple of undulating and/or sloping greens. On the front 9, I like the left dogleg par-5 1st hole, with those tall thin trees along the fairway and a bunker going halfway around the green (from the front to the right), the par-3 3rd, with a tee shot over a lake landing onto an elongated peninsula green, surrounded by a thin bunker, and the short (about 400 yards) sharp left dogleg par-5 4th hole, with a big LaCavulin sign on the other side of the bank and a very undulating green. I also like the visually-nice left dogleg par-4 5h hole, with big bunkers a little bit apart on the right (and further to the left) of the tee, and the par-4 6th, with a straight and slightly-downhill tee shot, facing the big LaCavulin sign and a green, slightly to the left side. Coming back, you will have an eagle opportunity on the short (about 480 yards) and sharp right dogleg par-5 10th hole, with 5 bunkers in the corner, before facing the right dogleg par-4 12th, with its zigzagging bunker around the corner and its slightly-elevated green, and the par-3 14th hole, quite short (about 125 yards), but with an enormous bunker in front of the green, from the left. The last three holes are nice : the par-3 16th is straight, with a big rock formation (with higb grass on top) behind the green and a lake on the right side, the par-4 17th hole has a fairway twisting right, left, then right again, along the lake, and the par-4 18th hole follows the zigzagging lake on the left side. With plenty of nice courses released since by ron717, LaCavulin Island 2010 is not one of my favorites but, once again, that does not take away all the nice job done creating it !

More classic stuff from Ron the legend, this is a very nice course in a great setting. It feels like a fishing or shipyard harbour location and has a different vibe to most other courses - very picturesque too. The layout is good and varied, with a very healthy dosage of challenge. Plays beautifully and it's another very fine creation, cheers!

Man, I absolutely loved playing this course. Played it on breezy with very dry greens. Some of the toughest, yet fair, greens you will see. Great job, Ron!

Well Ron, first of all: my compliments for the nice course. A few questions: logo says LeCavulin, the course name says LaCavulin and the very special single malt whisky I know (you have to taste it once in your live!!) is called Lagavulin. A reading error: the C must be a G. Are the hills across the water really as redbrown? When you reach the clubhouse after 18 holes, just order a LAGAVULIN!
