A very enjoyable course, with smooth, often undulating fairways twisting between isolated trees, a beautiful forest in the background, a few water hazards and some nice elevation changes. This par 72 starts with the nice par-4 1st hole, with a twisting fairway and, midway, a bunker on the right and a big pond on the left, making it narrower, and an approach shot over a few trees to reach the slightly-elevated green to the left, and it continues with the straight and uphill par-3 2nd, with an undulating green, surrounded by three small bunkers. Two of my favorite holes follow : the left dogleg par-4 3rd is quite scenic with an uphill blind tee shot, a narrow fairway and a beautiful island green with a nice wooden little bridge on the left, whereas the left dogleg par-5 4th hole is very long (more than 670 yards), with a blind and downhill tee shot, a slanted fairway and a couple of more shots around some trees to reach the elevated green. Then, after the straight and short (about 325 yards) par-4 5th hole with an elevated green, and the par-4 6th, with a downhill tee shot and a blind and steeply-uphill second shot to the green, you will reach the nice dogleg par-4 8th hole, downhill all the way to the green with a small lake on the left, before finishing with the par-5 9th, with an undulating and twisting fairway and a green, slightly uphill. On the back 9, I like the par-3 11th hole, downhill to the green, set at the bottom of a small hill halfway around, and the pretty dogleg par-4 12th, with a narrow fairway, halfway, with a bunker on the left and a small lake on the right and a slightly-elevated green on the right, with more water behind. After a few more holes with slight elevation changes (down and up par-4 13th, right dogleg par-5 14th, and a blind downhill tee shot on the par-3 15th), you will face the par-4 16th hole, quite nice, with a blind tee shot flying down the slope, with a small pond halfway on the right, and a downhill green. Finally, after the straight and short par-4 17th hole where, despite its elevated green, you should be able to putt for a birdie, you will reach the long (about 635 yards) left dogleg par-5 18th, downhill all the way with a blind tee shot and a couple of more shots between isolated trees to reach the green before heading for the nice clubhouse behind. Sheffield Golf Club is pretty to look at (with that red-roofed wooden lodge near the forest bringing a little colorful touch) and, with its slight elevation changes and isolated trees, provides quite a few challenging holes, thanks to Danut Golf's nice design.

Not a lot of frills, but thats what I like most about your courses. They are clean, realistic, run smooth and fun to play. Can't ask for more. Thanks Steve.

IMO this is one sweet track. Steve always give us new and unique green complexes, detailed water features and always new and innovative bunker design. What always stands out to me about your courses Steve, are not only what I just described but your fairways, I love them. They just snake around a tree or two here and there and that always makes them tough, very good tree placement. Shows you don't have to have a million tress to make a course.. Elevation work is top notch.. Sweet job Steve! Mentor you say PdLegend, absolutely, there can be a lot learned by checking out this designers courses.. Thanks Steve..

The numbers are a combination of distance, hazards and elevation changes. I don't know exactly how it is calculated, but the highest amount (I think) is 1.20 +7. Not really sure what it all means, because I have seen courses rated at 97 +1 that play just as hard as 1.20 +7. I believe the 1.20 or whatever number is there, has to do with distance average per hole or overall for the loop. And then the + or - numbers would be the other variables. Really, I think most people tend to ignore those numbers. As a designer I try, on some courses, to make something closer to 1.00 +/- 0 that plays as tough as the high number ratings. Not easy to do - lol. Of course, someone may have a much better explanation of just what those numbers mean. I only hope I am not "too" far off - lol! :-)

An O.K. course with no problems at all ( playing pro tees, novice level and nice weather conditions: score minus 10). When I play this course the TW 08 program tells me this is a course rated 1,20 + 4; does that mean a normal human being plays this course at 4 over par? Can anyone tell me if the course is rated +9, it is more difficult than a course rated -1; or is it just the other way round? Thank you for your reply!
