Yes, mjbrocko is a talented designer and, yes, once in a blue moon, he can make a “normal” fantasy course, even though, with steep elevation changes and plenty of blind shots, this par 72 is anything but easy. But, at least, it is playable (unlike some of his other courses...), and fun to discover, with its pretty snow-capped mountainous panorama, beautiful trees and snowy patches on a few rocks and/or mounds around the greens. After starting with a long par-5 hole, with a tree-lined fairway, uphill all the way, and a blind second shot steeply-uphill landing downward to the green (with a couple of big rocks around), you will face the unusual right dogleg par-4 2nd, with a tee shot over a huge rock landing downhill between a small rock (on the left) and trees (on the right corner), and a blind approach to the green, hidden by a small mound. Then, after a couple of very hilly holes (straight par-4 3rd and the dogleg par-4 4th, bending sharply to the left), you will move to the cute par-3 5th, with a... moose standing in the snow, across the fairway, midway, and a very narrow opening between trees to get to the green. The par-4 6th hole is not a piece of cake either, with a heavily-slanted and rollercoaster fairway and a small pond, midway (with trees on the left), and a blind second shot toward the steeply-elevated green, and is followed by the very long par-5 7th, steeply up and down, and with a short and blind approach uphill... downward to the green. Last, but not least, you will finish the front 9 with the steeply-uphill par-3 9th hole, and its tiny green. The back 9 is pretty tough too, starting with the long par-5 10th hole, with a steeply-uphill tee shot followed by another uphill and blind shot landing down onto a big slope in the direction of the green, set at the bottom of a big hill (and guarded in front by a bunker shaped like a sling shot). Between the next two left dogleg holes (par-4 11th and par-5 12th), I prefer the latter with its unusual tee shot above reeds and a small creek, right in front, and its long and uphill approach to reach the elevated green, framed by two snowy mounds. The par-3 13th hole, on the other hand, is uphill and with a snowy patch across in front of the green, and is followed by two straight holes, the par-5 14th and the par-4 15th, with an elongated snowy area, between two fairways, leaving you with a choice of either going left or right before aiming your approach to the green. The finishing stretch is pretty, tough and scary, especially on the very scenic par-3 16th hole, with its blind shot over plenty of snowy areas and a few trees, landing onto a green, surrounded by more snow and another moose standing next to it (!), and the par-4 17th, with a blind and uphill tee shot and a green, set at the bottom of a steep hill (with trees on the left and a bunker in front and to the right). As for the par-3 18th hole, you will need a lot of luck with your blind and steeply downhill tee shot through trees to reach its tiny green, surrounded by tall trees... In the end, mjbrocko was right : this Borin Hills was his only normal course and, even though his imagination went a little bit wild on quite a few holes, he managed to make this Borin Hills quite entertaining. So give it a try and, who knows, you might feel like the mighty mouse (or moose !) at the end of your round !
