A delightful course, pretty to look at and quite challenging, with plenty of wide and (often) elongated strategically-placed bunkers, elevation changes, water hazards and a back 9 with breathtaking finishing holes hugging the coastline. On the front 9, I like the beautiful and short (around 305 yards) downhill par-4 2nd hole, with an elongated bunker on both sides of the fairway, midway, and a small green (on the right, and partially hidden by trees), hard to reach with your driver with a serpentine creek in front and an elongated bunker on the left, and the par-3 3rd, with a tee shot flying twice over that winding creek to reach the green. The left dogleg par-5 4th hole is uphill all the way, with a big elongated bunker, splitting the fairway in the middle (around the corner), leaving you with hardly any chance of reaching the steeply-elevated green on your second shot, framed by two more bunkers (front and back), and is followed by the right dogleg par-5 5th, with a steeply-downhill tee shot landing onto a tree-lined fairway and a blind and uphill long second shot toward the green, with an elongated bunker in front. Then, after the par-4 6th hole, with a downhill tee shot over a small creek landing near four big scattered elongated bunkers midway, and an uphill approach to the green, with 2 more elongated bunkers to worry about, you will face the par-4 7th, with a blind tee shot over some trees and a short approach over a small creek to reach the downhill green. The next two holes face Lake Erie, with the par-3 8th, requiring a blind tee shot, sharply downhill to reach the green, surrounded by four elongated bunkers, and the very pretty right dogleg par-4 9th, needing another slightly-downhill tee shot landing near two elongated bunkers (midway, in the corner) and an uphill approach to the... downhill green, above the coastline (with a nice wooden fence behind), and next to a lighthouse and clubhouse, on the left. The back 9 starts with the wide-open sharp right dogleg par-4 10th hole, with trees on the left lined up all the way to the green, and a small cliff, two-thirds of the way on the right, and continues with the scenic par-4 11th, quite short (315 yards) but very risky, with plenty of wide bunkers between the tee box and the green (surrounded by a few more), with nice houses set on a small hill behind. You will then move on to the very interesting straight par-4 12th hole, with a downhill tee shot landing onto a very narrow fairway between big hills all along (with more houses on top), and a second shot toward the elevated green, with a scary and tiny suspended bridge... dangling behind ! Two left dogleg holes follow : the par-4 13th is uphill all the way, along a small hill on the right (with more bushes and houses) ending midway (with the lake behind), and plenty of wide bunkers on the left (near the corner), and a green... without bunkers, and the par-5 14th is gorgeous with a wide bunker in the left corner, midway, plenty of trees below on the right of the fairway, and a blind and tough downhill shot (with more wide bunkers in between) to reach the green set on the edge of the cliff. Then, after the nice par-3 15th hole, downhill to the green, with a big hill on the right and thick trees hiding the view of the lake on the left and behind, you will finish with three spectacular coastline holes... On the left dogleg par-5 16th, you will need to hit a blind and uphill tee shot over the lake landing above the cliffs onto the slightly-downhill fairway, and follow with a “do or die” approach to the green, set on a small cliff, before moving on to the par-3 17th, and its breathtaking view of the lake, with a steeply-downhill tee shot over dirt and weeds landing onto the green, surrounded by elongated bunkers. Finally, your hands will shake, one last time, on the straight par-4 18th hole, with its very narrow fairway hugging the coastline on the left (and wide bunkers on the right, midway), and its tiny green, set on another small cliff (with two elongated bunkers on both sides), next to the lighthouse and clubhouse. 13 years ago, Bobby Bolin designed this magnificent course, already one of my favorites, with its beautiful landscape and plantings, even though I am still puzzled about that small skyline "emerging" on the far right of the 9th hole and on the left of the 18th...
