Well, I discovered another beauty of a course from a little-known designer, Big Slick !
This par 71 is delightful to watch and play as long as you stay away from the numerous small lakes spread everywhere and the bunkers, surrounded by a lot of deep rough...
The left dogleg par-4 1st hole, with a big twisted lake on the left side (and across the fairway) and another one to the left of the green, sets the tone for what you will be facing for the rest of the course.
More water will await you on the right dogleg par-4 2nd hole with nice yellow flowers in front of the tee box and another lake on the left side, just like on the short (less than 340 yards), "down-and-up" straight par-4 3rd, with water across and to the right of the fairway and an elevated green.
Both par-3 4th and 6th holes are quite nice, with tee shots over a lake, but the right dogleg par-4 5th hole is even nicer with all those yellow flowers in front, its meandering path and a small lake on the right side of the downhill green, just like the other right dogleg par-5 7th, with a long approach shot over a lake.
The par-4 8th, on another hand, is a risk/reward hole (about 330 yards aways), quite straight but with a lake slightly to the left of the fairway, and is followed by the par-4 9th hole, with a lake on the left side and a very nice meandering path.
If the par-4 10th hole, one of my favorites, is beautiful with its fairway, surrounded by 3 small lakes and a green, slightly to the right, the dogleg par-5 11th, slightly to the right, offers a very tough challenge as you will have to hit a blind and short second shot if you don't want to end up in deep rough and bullrush near the green, too far to reach...
After two par-4 doglegs, the 12th, to the left, and the 13th, to the right, both with high rough splitting the fairways in the middle, you will reach the short (about 360 yards) par-4 14th hole where, after hitting a blind shot uphill, you will need to hit another one to reach the green further down, across from the small lake.
Then, after two par-3 holes, the 15th, slightly downhill with water on the right side, not far from the green, and the 16th, pretty straight, the long par-5 17th hole will await you, with an uphill blind tee shot, bunkers in the corner and water on the right side before finishing with the par-4 18th hole, quite straight but nice, with plenty of trees on the left side, not far from the tee box, and another lake on the right side, near the slightly elevated green.
With rolling hills as a panorama, nice plantings and plenty of water hazards, this course will test you all along, especially with all the high rough around the fairways and bunkers. But that's the price to pay to enjoy this beautiful course, well designed by Big Slick !
