Pretty to look at, with its serpentine lake as a center of attention, this par 72 may look easy at first with its wide fairways and greens, but with a few short risky holes and some well-placed big elongated bunkers, you will have to hit some accurate shots if you want to finish with a low score. My favorite holes on the front 9 are the wide open and scenic opening par-4, with a big lake behind the green, slightly to the left, and the gorgeous par-3 3rd, with a tee shot over the serpentine lake crossing the fairway in front of the green, set on a rocky plateau (with a beautiful panoramic view as a bonus). On the short (less than 300 yards) left dogleg par-4 4th hole, you will have to decide if you want to risk reaching the green (set on a small mound) from the tee box, as tall trees... stand in the way, partially hiding it, before hitting a tee shot over a small lake on the par-3 5th. Then, after the right dogleg par-4 7th hole, with a fairway, split midway by some deep rough and a small creek and a green, sharply to the right, you will have a golden opportunity for an eagle on the straight par-5 9th, with its wide and undulating fairway and its green, slightly uphill and surrounded halfway by a wide lake. The back 9 starts with the risk/reward short par-4 10th hole, with a tee shot above a serpentine path, crossing the fairway, and two small bunkers near the green, reachable from the tee box, despite being hidden by small trees on the left. On the left dogleg par-4 11th hole, you will need to hit a blind and uphill tee shot over some deep rough landing... down and another blind second shot toward the green, before heading to the right dogleg par-4 12th, where your tee shot will fly over a meandering river, crossing the fairway halfway, before hitting a blind approach to the green, with trees in front on the left. The next two holes are very nice : the par-4 13th is a right dogleg, with a downhill tee shot landing onto a wide fairway (split halfway by some deep rough and a serpentine path), and a nice approach toward the green (along a wide lake on the left), and the par-4 14th is straight and slightly uphill, hugging a big lake on the right, with a tee shot over part of it, branching out across the fairway, halfway. The finishing stretch offers two long par-5 holes : the 15th is slightly uphill all the way, with a tee shot over deep rough and a blind second shot toward the green, and the 17th is also uphill, with a wide undulating and sloped fairway and an undulating green (only reachable on your third shot), with a big bunker all around. If you can manage to birdie the par-3 16th hole, with a tee shot over plenty of deep rough and a green, surrounded halfway by three big elongated bunkers, and the right dogleg par-4 18th hole, with a downhill tee shot and an elevated and sloped green, with two big elongated bunkers (in front and in the back), then you will have mastered this well-designed Olde Barro Downs course, and enjoyed it fully as did Jimbo63 and rslay, two of the top designers around !

Thanks for all the comments. I will try to learn from them and improve the next design. I think I will follow the advice of not using OOB on my next course, so try to stay out of the gorse!

Well done for this design. Enjoyed my round, played very smoothly, lots of very interesting bunker features and I was particularly impressed by hole 3, with the drive over water and the cliff face. Very good layout and IMO the sounds fitted the course perfectly. Look forward to your next design.

Nice course but at times lagged for me a bit in places, the name of the course? I was thinking an ancient Celtic land full of standing stones and circles, but only saw some stones to the side of the green on hole 17, and "downs" usually do not have much in the way of trees but here there are many trees, also the sounds are a bit Tropical? which did not fit, I also had probs with AI shots one short of the green was played backwards into a bunker!
BUT as it stands a nice course overall, look forward to the4 next course!

Good course great design. Would have got a 5 from me but some strange OOB situations on here. I landed just off the fairway on one hole behind a tree and it gave me OOB. The guy I played with also had one, seems the light brown rough maybe classed as OOB in many places, some markers could help. Great work though was a pleasure to play it.

Don't be put off by the problem with the photos. This is a very good, sound, challenging course. Great architectural decisions and a delightful background of birds, bells, crickets etc. My sincere congratulations to the designer. Wonderful job.
