Don’t look at the above picture as this par 72 is simply very nice and green, all the way around, from its beautiful English countryside panorama to its tree-lined undulated fairways, and is not set in the middle of a very thick forest. If it’s true that there are plenty of trees on this course, most of them are thin and you can get around them, provided that you hit accurate tee shots ; your challenge, instead, will be reaching the greens, partially hidden by a few of them ! One perfect example, after the right dogleg par-4 1st hole, with a tiny pond to the right of the green, is the left dogleg par-4 2nd where, after hitting a slightly-uphill tee shot, you will have to choose the right club to see your approach fly over a couple of small trees and that tiny pond to reach the green. You will face that small pond again on the right dogleg par-4 8th, with two big bunkers, a few yards apart, midway in the corner, and a risky second shot toward the green, with that small water hazard, next to it (to the right), and the left dogleg par-4 9th, with an undulated fairway, and another tiny pond to watch for, again on the right side of the green. The back 9 is tougher with more trees to watch for, such as on the right dogleg par-4 10th hole, with a risky approach to the green, partially hidden by trees bordering a small pond, or the par-3 12th, with a blind tee shot over more trees. The left dogleg par-4 13th hole is not to be overlooked either, with a tee shot over a small mound landing onto an undulated fairway and a blind and uphill second shot toward the green, with a couple of trees in front and a big bunker behind. Finally, after the straight par-4 16th hole, with deep rough splitting the undulated fairway, midway, and a slightly-uphill approach to the green (with a tiny pond in front), you will move on to the tough left dogleg par-5 17th, with trees in the corner, midway on the left, leaving you with a very long second shot if you want to reach the green, before walking over to the straight par-4 18th, with deep rough splitting the fairway, midway, and a blind approach to the green (with a nice clubhouse further behind). Very pleasant to look at and tougher than it looks with its strategically-planted trees, this Kestrel Woods GC is quite challenging, especially on your approaches to the greens (sometimes, hard to read). As a result, choosing the right clubs and being patient will be the key if you want to score well on this well-designed course, done by jbx1612.
