Well, if you want an out-of-this-world experience, Helawi Gorge is the course for you : even though the jungle is not as dense as I thought it would be, despite plenty of thick trees all along, it is quite nice with a lot of wide-open views and a meandering river coming into play on many holes, not to mention jungle sounds heard, here and there, to test your concentration (or scare you !), be it from birds, apes, or... drums from the pygmies preparing (perhaps) their barbecues !
On this pretty, and not overly difficult, par 72, I like the first three holes, the par-5 1st, with trees on the left of the fairway and a zigzagging river on the right, the beautiful par-3 2nd, with an island green and a couple of trees to watch for, and the short (about 320 yards) dogleg par-4 3rd hole, with a tee shot over a small river and a green, partially surrounded by trees, on the left side.
Another noteworthy hole is the dogleg par-5 5th, with a river flowing to the right, then left, then sharply to the right again, and where you will have to decide if reaching the green (quite far) on your second shot is worth the risk with water to fly over twice.
Then, after the par-4 6th hole, with a tee shot over a meandering river going to the right and a few small bunkers in the middle of the fairway, and a green, slightly to the right, you will tee off from the straight and the very scenic par-3 7th, with a tee shot over the river branching out right in front of the island green.
On the back 9, after a couple of more doglegs, my favorite holes are the par-3 12th, with little mounds on both sides of the fairway and deep rough in between, and the short (about 325 yards) right dogleg par-4 13th hole, with trees all along on the right side, hiding the elevated green.
Two more sharp dogleg holes are worth mentioning : the par-5 14th hole (to the right), with a tree-lined fairway and a wide green with the small river behind, and the par-4 16th (to the left), with lots of trees all along on the left and the river on the right.
You will then finish with two nice holes with plenty of water to deal with : the par-3 17th, with a straight tee shot over the river turning to the right near the green, and the long (almost 590 yards) par-5 18th hole, with a zigzagging river and shots flying over the river three times (with a choice of fairways on your second shot) before reaching the green, with the clubhouse behind and a small war memorial on top of a small hill on the right.
Fun to play and nice to watch, Helawi Gorge, very well-designed by Neil Munro, is like no other course : up to you, then, to decide if you want to turn up the volume and enjoy the jungle sounds, but don't expect Tarzan and Jane to show up !

What a cool jungle course, and the greens made for good Bridie's chances, but getting to them was the tough challenge. Some tough Par 3's on this course, and I personally loved the 17th hole that you have to hit over/along the river. This was scary to do, but I made it. I believe all the PAR 3's had water in play, and the pins I played with made for a good challenge to get close off the tee without risking some danger. The course was all tucked down into the jungle, and followed the river most of time if I'm remembering things correctly. I loved the way the plantings where done here too, very jungle like. Plus, the way you did the hill side surrounding the course by making the back tree's tower over the other trees near the course. This really made for a awesome jungle vibe, and now I know what it might feel like to play golf on a jungle course. The noises added to this jungle vibe, and we got a good laugh from the story you came up with for the course. Very funny it was, and this made us freak out some when I hit it into the jungle twice. I'm not completely sure what designers have made possible in this game, and we where not sure if some native was going to jump out at my golfer because of the story told about course. The 14th hole had huge dip down in fairway that reminded me on my favorite holes from my hometown course where I grew up, and this took me back when used to try to carry the huge hole in fairway. I played with Expert, difficult pins, heavy, morning, fair, clam, and pro. Played smooth, and I had all settings on highest they would go. I did turn down tree settings to high with so many trees on this course, and it amazes me with how many tree's one can put on all these courses I play.

Oh yeah, Terrie is asking me what library that blue flowers are from. She loved the way these flowers looked on the course, and wants me to try to use them one day. Man, I can't believe I almost forget this, the drumming from the natives was awesome, and it got me into a good golf rhythm. Might have to start playing my tour rds to some beats from now on.... :)

Thanks for the time you gave while making this course for us buddy

Just finish my first round on this course and i was very surprise on what a beautiful looking course this is. It is the 1st course of yours i've play and will be checking out every other one you have. I really got the jungle feeling playing this course because of the sounds that we included. Top rate planting and playability. Well done, this course is better than a 4 star great work and thanks...its a keeper ****1/2
