I'd forgotten about the "craw" on the 17th. I need to download that and have a look. I think this was the 2nd course I made, definitely one of the early ones anyway so I'd imagine it's a bit basic.

Another nice course from Neil Munro, maybe not as spectacular as some of his other designs, but quite challenging, despite its relatively "easy" look, especially on the back 9. With a nice mountainous panorama and plenty of trees, not to mention a few water hazards and some well-placed bunkers (and bushes), this par 72 plays very smoothly. On the front 9, I like the par-5 1st hole, with its slightly-uphill green, partially hidden by trees on the right, the right dogleg par-4 3rd, downhill all the way to the green, and the right dogleg par-4 6th hole, with a big pond on the right midway through and a nice panoramic view of the trees and mountains around the sloped green. The par-3 7th hole has also a sloped green on the other bank of a big pond, whereas the two left dogleg par-4 holes have an elevated green (on the 8th), and a couple of bunkers and gorse bushes in the middle of the fairway on the latter. The back 9 starts with the long (around 600 yards), but not too difficult, par-5 10th hole, and is followed by the down-and-up par-4 11th, with a small war memorial behind the green, unlike the par-4 12th hole, similar to the 11th, but with four small pot bunkers in the middle of the fairway. If the right dogleg par-5 13th hole has a big lake on the far left (in the corner) and a slightly-elevated green with plenty of trees, partially hiding it, the best holes are yet to come... My favorite holes are the picturesque downhill par-3 14th, with its peninsula green surrounded by a big lake, and the very sharp dogleg to the right par-5 15th hole, with a wide lake on the right and plenty of trees halfway in the corner, leaving you with a tough decision off the tee : if you try to gamble, you may end up in the water and, if you don’t and stay on the left side, you will have a very long and difficult approach shot around trees to try to get close to the green... As for the par-3 17th hole, you will be in for a big (and unique !) surprise : if this hole is not difficult, it is very... unusual because of its “bird’s eye view” of the cup which is, in fact, part of a giant...craw drawn on the green ! Finally, the left dogleg par-4 18th hole, with two uphill shots to reach the green, will bring you back close to the war memorial on the left, near the clubhouse. Craws Nest may not be the most breathtaking course you will ever see or the toughest ever, but it will provide you with quite a few challenging holes and some risk/reward shots to keep you on your toes, while listening to the (stereo) sounds of the birds on your way to the 18th green. Thank you again, Neil Munro, for designing another great course and for coming up with that very original 17th hole, that will stay in my mind for quite a while...

Here's one link I found about the DunDee War Memorial on the course, and will read more about it when I get home today. I'm all about thanking the Men & Women who fought for this huge cause, and gave their lives in doing so. Even my Grandfather who was a German living there during this mad time was killed when they used home to hide the Jews from the Nazi's in the basement food cellar during WWII. They found them during a search, and killed him & everyone else on the spot, then did very bad things to my grandmother. I'm very proud of my middle name that I got from my grandfather first name.

Well, figured I play a relaxing round of golf before going to bed, and glad I did. Had fun on this course, and had one of the best 2nd approach fade shots ever on the 1st hole Par 5 to get myself a rare eagle.......:) Then my game went the bad, and I got some practice with my punch shot coming out of the woods after getting greedy trying to get extra yardage instead of playing smart & hanging back to stay clear of the trees.Course had had a good vibe, and I felt as if I was out in the woods playing a cool round of golf away from everyday life troubles. Much needed relaxing round just now, and I now have to go google to see who the Dundee Men are who were on the Memorial 18th green.
Thanks for yor time while making this Squirrley

First comment here ,baffling as to why no one rated this yet. Good course, got a birdie on 1 and then hit the trees in the fairway on 2 double bogied it and went around playing catch up after that but great course! and a keeper
