A nice and tough course, with a big island fairway as the center of attraction on quite a few holes, some sharp doglegs and plenty of water hazards. If this par 72 starts nicely with the straight and short (less than 300 yards) par-4 1st hole, with pretty flowers and bushes around the green, the left dogleg par-5 2nd, with a lake on the right and another one on the left (behind tall trees in the corner), with a big island in the middle, will make you think twice about trying to reach the beautiful green on the other bank... The big island fairway is, again, the landing area of your tee shot on the straight par-4 3rd hole, with another approach shot over the water to reach the green, unlike the right dogleg par-4 4th, where you will have to be careful with your tee shot, with a little creek on the left and a big lake on the right (with a few houses around to look at). The straight 5th hole is the only par-3 on the front 9, but it is quite long (about 290 yards) and pretty with a tee shot over a lake and a half-moon-shaped green, slightly downhill with nice plantings around. The par-4 6th hole is quite intriguing, with a lake in the middle, giving you a choice of fairways to reach the green (slightly to the right) but, either way, with well-placed bunkers, it won't be an easy tee shot, whereas the short (less than 380 yards) and sharp right dogleg par-4 7th will give you headaches trying to figure out if you should go for broke trying to hit your tee shot over the big lake... The left dogleg par-4 8th hole is "cute" with its big island fairway in the middle (and the three little houses facing it), requiring another head-scratching decision at "tee-time", which is not the case with the right dogleg par-4 9th where, despite small lakes on both sides of the fairway in the corner, and a couple of bunkers to watch for, you should have a birdie opportunity on the slightly-elevated green ! On the back 9, if the par-3 10th hole is similar to the 5th but shorter (about 240 yards over a lake), the left dogleg par-4 11th will test you again off the tee, with that island fairway again in the middle and a green, partially hidden by a few trees on the righ side. Then, after the nice right dogleg par-5 12th hole, with a small lake on the left and a bigger one on the right with a green slightly downhill (and a few bunkers in front), you will face the right dogleg par-4 13th, with bushes in a hollow wasteland across midway in the fairway, along with a few bunkers nearby, and a green with a small pond on the right, a lake behind and a big bunker on the left. The left dogleg par-5 14th hole is not long (less than 450 yards), but it is very tough with its tree-lined fairway, twisting right, then left, with high rough across in the middle, and tall trees in the corner, making it almost impossible for your second shot to reach the green. Things don't get any easier on the par-3 15th hole, with a tee shot over trees along a small lake, partially hiding the green, or on the right dogleg par-4 16th, with a tee shot over tall trees in the corner and an approach shot over part of a lake. Thankfully, the last two holes are not as "difficult" : on the par-3 17th, you will need to hit a tee shot over a large pond, but the green is quite wide, whereas the right dogleg par-5 18th hole is quite scenic, with an elongated pond on the right side, a few circular patches of high rough across the fairway (with a cute lone tree in the middle), and a slightly-elevated green, next to the clubhouse behind on the left. With its nice hilly countryside as a panorama, beautiful plantings and its main island fairway, Frenshaw Ponds will test you all the way with some tough decisions off the tees and quite a few tricky approach shots, a perfect blend on this course, well-designed, once again, by jbx1612 !
