After playing this par 72, I tend to agree with all the previous comments : if the patterned ocean spoils the overall impression of this course (especially on the first 3 holes), the rest of it looks really good, be it the small rock croppings scattered all along, the plantings or the small “strategically-placed” bunkers. But, unfortunately, you can’t avoid noticing that ocean on the very tough dogleg par-5 1st hole, bending sharply to the right, with a tee shot flying above the beach and landing on the opposite cliff, and on the long par-3 2nd, challenging too, with its two pot bunkers in front of the green (on the edge of the cliff), followed by what looks like a “copy-and-paste” par-3 3rd hole, about 30 yards shorter, but with a flag “easier” to reach, with two bunkers on the left instead. After moving inland on the par-4 4th and dogleg left par-4 5th holes, you will face the pretty dogleg right par-4 6th, with a tee shot over trees needed to shorten the distance left to the green, near the edge of the cliff again, before “enjoying” the scenic and very tough dogleg par-5 7th, with a tee shot over more sand and another cliff, and a blind and risky second shot over more tall trees, with a fairway winding its way to the left then the right toward the clifftop green. The back 9 starts with the difficult dogleg right par-5 10th hole, with an undulated tree-lined fairway and a very long second shot toward a small elevated green (guarded by two small bunkers in front), and continues, later on, with the very long (more than 600 yards) par-5 12th, with a wide open fairway, and a downhill green, hard to reach if you want to get an eagle opportunity. After the par-4 13th, the next three holes are beautiful, offering a gorgeous overhead view of the ocean, with the dogleg right par-4 14th, downhill to the green, the downhill par-3 15th and the dogleg right par-4 16th. The par-3 17th hole is nice too, even though it is a shorter version of the 16th, but its flag is very hard to reach (on the left), with two small bunkers in front, unlike the dogleg right par-4 18th, above the beach and the cliff, quite picturesque with its small lighthouse set on a tiny rocky island (to the far right, behind the green). In the end, with this South Point Bluffs course, barrylb37 designed a pretty, yet challenging layout with nice elevation changes and small greens, often hard to reach with small bunkers around. I just wished that the ocean would have looked a little more natural...

Just stunning to play both in looks and how smooth it runs, had so much fun on this one , not easy with advanced and plenty of wind but one hell of a challenge that I highly loved , many thanks for sharing this beauty.

The only thing I didn't like about this course weree the problems with the sea in the background (how can this happen?), but as for the rest: an excellent course!

I just had my first chance to play this course. Great elevation changes, great scenery, and I really liked the contours on the greens. Although I agree with 'putt' about the pano and water scenery, it did not hurt my enjoyment playing this course one bit.

I figure the world is 75% water for a reason. That is why I sail. |

The course was spoilt a little for me by the fact that the sea appeared patterned and the cliffs were all right closeup but looked ugh from a distance, but the concept of the course was good and it had a cheerful ambience. Hole 16 was good and holes 17 and 18 on the homeward stretch along the cliffs were excellent. The pano was good.

If your afraid of heights or cliff edges This course might not be for you.............LOL
This course was fun has heck to play, and it whipped me like a step-child, but I think I can maybe tame this course after I get familiar with where to hit the ball off the tee. It was very cool to look at all the killer elevation work you did on this course. I just noticed that you have a bunch of other courses that I will definitely check out eventually. So many course yet for me to try out, and it's hard sometimes to find the time to get to them all, but I love the fact that there are so many cool course by good designers like yourself for me to play still..........:)

Did not enjoy the first 2/3 holes I do not like these clifftop courses as my ball seems to get magnetized over the edges! but after awhile I got into this course, not my cup of tea all round but a good course and well made as usual,

Wow, great course Barry ... this one is a knee-knocker from the start! Sort of like Erie Cliffs meets Wailea Gold. Fabulous rolling terrain throughout and great job with the rock croppings. Really liked that back-left pin position on hole 15 tucked behind the little rocks ... tough but fun. And the view coming down 14 was beautiful. Nice detail work with the lighthouse on the island as you come down the home stretch. My only wish was that you might have added the tropical bird sounds from Wailea, but just a minor quibble. Another great design.
