With green hills as a backdrop, colorful trees around, this par 71 offers some unusual, but pretty, sights with small islands, surrounded by water... dirt or trees, small ponds/lakes in the middle or along the fairways, elongated lakes, along with some nice plantings (flowers, bushes).
After the straight par-3 1st hole, with its slightly-downhill blind tee shot, and a tiny pond across in front of the green, I like the nice right dogleg par-5 3rd, with plenty of deep rough around the fairway and a small island with an undulated fairway a little bit further past the corner…
Other holes that stand out are the right dogleg par-4 5th, with high rough in the middle of the fairway and a green, slightly downhill with a big island behind (with a nice gazebo and a little lighthouse !), and the very scenic and unusual straight par-4 7th hole, with small trees around a dirt circle in the middle of the fairway, and three separate mall bunkers across near the green.
The left dogleg par-5 9th hole is also nice, with a few bunkers spread around its undulated fairway and an uphill approach shot to the green over a small pond, with that small island (mentioned above) behind the green.
The back 9 starts with a feeling of “deja-vu”, with the par-3 10th hole, slightly downhill like the other par-3s, and the left dogleg par-5 11th, similar to the 9th, but without the pond in front of the green.
The par-4 12th hole is a little bit tricky with a big half-moon-shaped pond across the fairway on a small plateau, leaving you with a risky tee shot, unlike the par-4 13th, very different with trees in the middle and fairways on both sides, and another cute small island behind the green.
Another interesting hole is the par-4 15th, with two small separated elongated lakes on the right side of the fairway, followed by the beautiful and long (about 300 yards) par-3 16th hole, with a blind tee shot down to the green, with a small island right in front.
Then, after the right dogleg par-5 17th hole, with those two elongated lakes, this time on the left side, and a few bunkers to deal with, you will reach the… right dogleg par-5 18th hole, very similar to the 17th, but with high rough on the right side and bunkers on the left to watch for as you tee off.
With its nice layout, designed by jbx1612, Hamsphire County is pretty and offers some interesting holes, even if a few look alike, but you should be able to score well as the greens are wide and smooth…

I was in the hazards on this 18 more than I usually am over ten times as many holes.
Of course, this was my first run through, and my planning and precision will get better. The HCC certainly is a challenge for me even on Novice, especially breezy. Almost as much as many fantasy courses. Unlike them, though, this could very well be a real course, no shoot-through-the-hole-in-the-pirate-boat silliness.
