Another «are-you-kidding-me?» first-time design, beautiful to look at with its very hilly panorama and quite challenging, with steep elevation changes, water hazards and tough approaches toward the greens, often set on rocky plateaus. You will start your round with a left dogleg par-4 hole, with a tree-lined fairway hugging a small river flowing past the green (and hard to reach with a second shot over the trees), before moving on to the beautiful right dogleg par-4 2nd, with a steeply-downhill tee shot off a small cliff landing near a tiny pond on the left, and with a blind and uphill approach to the green, partially hidden by trees, and set next to a serpentine river. On the par-4 5th hole, you will need to hit two blind and downhill shots over a multi-tiered fairway (with a few small rocks across) to reach the green, before heading later on for the gorgeous par-3 8th, with a steeply-downhill blind tee shot offering a spectacular panoramic view of the valley and the hills and a green, surrounded by a few small rocks and a big bunker. The back 9 is no pushover either, as you will see with the right dogleg par-4 10th hole, with a risky and blind tee shot downward landing either in front of a deep pond or beyond on a rocky plateau, and a second shot toward the elevated and sloped green, with a small rocky wall and a big bunker around. Then, after the left dogleg par-4 11th hole, with a small pond in the middle of the downhill fairway, you will face the par-4 12th, with a tee shot over a meandering river, crossing the fairway diagonally, and a steeply-uphill approach to the green, set on a plateau at the bottom of a small rocky hill. As you get ready to tee off from the vertiginous par-3 14th hole, make sure to take your pills against dizziness and think twice before choosing your club if you want to get a birdie opportunity... With your legs still skaking, the par-4 15th hole will keep on testing you, with a risky downhill tee shot landing near (or beyond) a small creek across the fairway, midway (hugging the river on the left), and a tough approach to the elevated green, set on a plateau with a big bunker in front and more water behind. The finishing stretch is pretty tough too, with two uphill par-5 holes, with the 16th having a multi-tiered fairway, split by deep rough and a few small rocks, and a green at the bottom of a rocky hill, and the 17th, with another multi-tiered fairway and a green, set on a rocky plateau (to the right) and hard to reach on your second shot. You will finish your round in the most spectacular fashion with the scary and gorgeous signature par-4 18th hole, with a steeply-downhill tee shot and a second shot toward the island-like green, in the middle of a wide lake. Needless to say, this par 71 is not for the faint-hearted and you will have to be very patient if you want to finish with a decent score on this course which was not designed by a... "nutty" golfer !

Here is a course I keep playing and has a real course feel. A Outstanding course, if you haven't played it, give it a try.

Relly liked this one. I spent some time in Central and Eastern Kentucky, you really caputed the feel of the "hills and hollows" of the Bluegrass State. Great job.

Just wanted to let you know, I love this design! The elevation work was top notch and you have to think where can I land this thing after takeoff. I think I got this course sometime ago but it's hard for me to play everyday. I thought better late than never. Thanks for the hard work to keep use players happy! Rick

The inspiration for this design was typical local terrain forms. I somewaht naively established the terrain and worked the course into it, as a real-world designer would do. Eventually there were some pretty big earth-moving operations to make is work. It was very challenging, but I learned alot of good stuff and had a ton of fun.

Nuttywood, the more I play this course the more I love it. It's a cool course that gives me a tough challenge, and with every shot I hit, I love the views I see when the ball is in the air. Man, the elevation work for this course had to be real hard to do. When playing this course, it made me think. Do designers make the land first then design the course to the land or do they do the course first & add the land elevation work after the holes are done? Very tricky not matter how it's done, I bet........ I'm going to get Tiger Woods 06 & 07, and try to see if I can grasp this designing stuff. It's something I really am interested in, and all the cool designer tutorials on this site are really cool for people like me who know nothing about this stuff. It's very cool that those people took their time to make them......

Thanks to all for the complimentary reviews. Yes, the cart paths were tough on this terrain. I worked pretty hard on getting them drivable, but my main focus was on the playing areas. My next design will be very different, but just as fun, I hope!

This course is outstanding.
Having to think shots through carefully, and being compelled to watch the shots in play are signs of a truly great course. It is also a pleasure playing a fantasy course that is beyond real but yet has a great deal of realism.
Short of a masterpiece for minor reasons, this course should be in your library.

WOW This is your first design? If it is, I can only hope I do this well on my first design whenever I give it a go at course design once I get TW 2006. Love the challenge this course gave me, and it's was very scenic, but the only problem I saw was with the cart-paths. The cart-paths just look out of place, but with the slopes on this course. I bet it's real difficult to get cart-paths right, and it's gotta be very tedious work doing all them paths throughout the course. This course had some very cool ideas in the hole designs I haven't seen to much of in my brief time playing Tiger Woods 08.
Keep up the great work, and I will look out for more work from you........ :)
