What a gorgeous course ! After being "out in the woods", I decided to go "out in the fields" and, needless to say, I don't regret my choice... This par 73 (just like the "Woods" course) has some nice snow-capped mountains as a backdrop, and looks quite bare but plantings are well done, and the few trees seen on the course are all well-placed and make the holes very picturesque. And with plenty of water hazards, subtle elevation changes, and a few tricky and/or fast greens, you will have a blast playing this course ! It starts with the dogleg par-4 1st hole, with a nice road on the left side, a serpentine path on the right, an uphill tee shot and another uphill approach shot towards the green, with a little stone bridge behind, under which water flows on both sides. The par-5 2nd hole is quite long (more than 600 yards) and, this time, you will need two shots over the meandering river (right, then left), while avoiding bunkers, to get close to the green and see a nice little farm on the right. After the par-3 3rd hole, and its blind downhill tee shot to the green, guarded by a wide bunker in front and a lone tree on the right, you will reach the tough and beautiful right dogleg par-5 4th, with a tee shot over the river (and a cute small stone house above it) and with plenty of wide bunkers (with high rough around) all over the fairway and near the elevated green. The par-4 5th hole has a couple of tall trees facing the tee area, wide bunkers on the right side and a downhill green with trees on the right (and the river behind), but the most gorgeous hole on the front 9, is the very long par-3 6th hole (more than 300 yards !), downhill all the way, with small hills on both sides of the fairway and a small pond in front of the green, set at the bottom of a small hill with a wide bunker on the right side ! The par-4 7th hole, on another hand, is quite short (about 375 yards) but, with a little luck, you can reach the green with your blind tee shot as the slope is quite steep halfway through, but you will have to avoid a very wide bunker (on the left side) and putt very carefully as the sloped green is very fast... As for the straight par-5 9th hole, you will need to hit a blind downhill tee shot to land your ball near a nice pond (with a lone tree across midway through), before hitting your approach shot and admire some beautiful small houses with a little garden (and high see-through fences) behind the green, next to the winding road. The back 9 has some tough holes too, such as the par-4 11th, where you will need to hit two shots over the river going around (while gazing at two small nice bridges on the right) to reach the green, set below a small plateau. With its panoramic view of the winding river as you tee off, the par-3 12th hole is quite nice but it is, again, quite long (about 290 yards) and your ball will fly over the water twice to reach the downhill green, while hearing a… dog barking ! The par-5 13th hole is similar to the 12th, but less downhill and has a slightly-uphill green, but it is not as nice as the beautiful dogleg par-4 16th hole, with a wide lake on the left filled with a lot of reeds. Finally, the straight par-5 18th hole will bring you back to that nice house again, behind the elevated green, in time to reflect on this beautifully-designed course, quite challenging with some very long par-3 and par-5 holes and some nice odd-shaped bunkers with, moreover, a great attention paid to details, making "Out in the fields" a definite keeper !

A true blend of nature, and golf. The water mill and flag on this course really set it apart from the norm.
As a fellow builder I can appreciate these things on a course, and now that my machine has a 512mb video card I can actually SEE some of the details I know I was missing before, on yours, mine, and every other course I have played.
Yep the greens are tricky... but if anyone has not played real golf and is making crying sounds they have no idea the tests that truly exist on many golf courses.

Hi Jimi,
A much more friendly course than Out in the World and very enjoyable to play!
You certainly like to make dangerous greens on slopes and long holes!
I look forward to your next innovation!
Cheers Brian

Liked the course, but pretty fast greens even on normal. Playing at least 12 to a dot on 3click.

PS Ace, some thought went into this. I like the St Andrew's textures, but I always found it annoying that they are so similar in colour that it's hard to distinguish between fairway, rough and green. I wanted at least the greens to stand out a bit to give you something to aim for. Sort of a visual aid, :D

Thanks guys. Glad you liked it. I'd still like to hear from the person who downrated it so severly though. After all, golf is a game for gentlemen and owning up to one's opinion is the gentlemanly thing to do. Or so I've been told...

What A country course! You will get A 5 from me, Your course's top A lot on the site. You should make A Braveheart course, Where the Scott's and the English had it out with golf clubs when the club fee's got to high. LOL

Once again Jimi....you are the master. Love all of your courses. You make every game a challenge. Such thoughtfulness in the designs is hard to come by. Considering my club plays mainly Gusty/very dry, it's always fun. Please don't stop.....cause when you do, life will get boring! I give it a 15 out of a 10.....as always.

I really liked this course but would offer one suggestion. The roughs, long grass, bushes etc were all more of a duller dormant coloration while the brightness of the greens seemed to clash. A slightly duller color for the greens would really improve this one to my eye. Nonetheless a good looking course with good detail work all around. Well done!

Not that it bothers me much, but I noticed how this course went from 5 to 3 stars in a matter of minutes within a few hours of uploading. Since I don't think any more than two people will have rated in such a short time, it makes sense to figure that one rated it a 5 and the other a 1. I am not that interested in the opinion of the person who gave me 5 stars, because it is rather obvious. If someone else thinks he should give it the lowest possible rating however, I would like to hear why. It seems no more than reasonable to me. A lack of courage may be involved. Maybe this chicken ought to dare and cross the road :D
