A very unusual course, with plenty of high mounds lining up the fairways, some elevation changes, a few trees and some water hazards, but with bird, animal and... ocean sounds heard, but nowhere to be seen ! This par 72 starts with the straight par-4 1st hole, with high mounds on both sides of the fairway and the sound of crashing waves all around (!), and is followed by the short (about 120 yards) and slightly-uphill par-3 2nd, and the long (more than 610 yards) right dogleg par-5 3rd hole, with a small high mound partially hiding the green on the right. The straight par-4 4th hole is a little bit tricky, with a tiny pond across the fairway midway through, making your tee shot quite risky, just like on the right dogleg par-4 5th, where you will have to hit a blind tee shot over small mounds on the right. The left dogleg par-5 6th hole, on another hand, has a bunker on the left and rough on the right, midway, making the fairway quite narrow and a slightly-elevated green with a lone tree and a couple of bunkers in front, and is followed by my favorite hole on the front 9, the short (less than 120 yards) par-3 7th, with a blind (and vertiginous) tee shot going down toward the green, with a little pond in front and a beautiful panoramic view. The last two holes are par-4 left doglegs, looking quite similar, with the nicest one being the 9th with a small mound in the left corner and its green, partially hidden by a couple of trees. On the back 9, the first three holes are quite nice too : the par-4 10th hole has a rollercoaster fairway and a steeply-elevated green, the par-3 11th looks a little bit like the 7th, with another blind tee shot going down sharply, and the right dogleg par-5 12th hole requires a big downhill tee shot, and two more uphill shots, the latter over a small pond across in front of the green. Of the last few holes, my favorite ones are the par-3 14th, easy with its wide elevated green and its pretty panoramic view as you reach it, the short (less than 500 yards) right dogleg par-5 16th hole, with a small pond in front of the elevated green, and the right dogleg par-5 18th, with a small pond in the corner and a long approach shot to the slightly-elevated green, partially hidden by a few trees. But, even though the landscape looks nice, the mystery remains as to why Mickygallegos decided to add all those sounds : with no birds flying by, animals passing by or ocean to look at, Rio de los Ciervos looks more like a Rio without... ciervos (deer) !

This is a fun course to play if you like to "grip it and rip it." The fairways are generous, the greens are large and there are good elevation changes that make it a great round......and....If you like intrusive, annoying, and constant bird and animal sounds, this is the course for you. Except for those irritating sounds, this is a course worth downloading.
